Not sure I'm liking how every rock has a shading going across it.

I am struggling with the rocks :(

Do you mean that the shading going across is bad because every rock has it instead of some or do you mean altogether? They are mean to be cracks, fyi.

I found that unless the rocks were 'iso+boxy' overall they were not reading right so this is why they are big boulders. I figured they needed to have lots of detail since everything else is soooooo busy. This is also why the color changes and the mossy areas, etc.

*I had to add one color

I think the problem with the rocks is the color. It seems out of place.

The dark gray/black on the left side, I think all the rocks should be that color.

Also, the purple shading on the rocks seems out of place as well. It suggests a night time setting, while the rest is clearly is in day time.

But I know you can do this. We're all behind you 101%.

I think the rocks you've finished (the bottommost ones, with cracks and all) are excellent, and I love the shading on them. The more WIP-ish ones above do look really weird at this point, though, with the tan and blue-black juxtaposed like that. If they all turn out to look as good as the finished ones, it'll doubtless be a stunning effect.

RPG is numberwang.

yeah, you most definitely need to brighten those rocks.. try something like that colors around the tunnel in the center to be darkest for the rocks.

Like greenraven said, it suggest a night time while the other is in the daytime. :)

But I have faith that you can work it out.

Jal, yeah the cracks going across the rocks.
The four five* smaller rocks on the bottom left the crack is in the same place.
It's really my only nitpick. :P

This project now has a title, 'Indigo Rock' :)
More work shown plus I am submitting it to Pixeldam once its finished so that weird thing in the bottom is to blend into the template.
Overall lighting and coloring doesn't match the Pixeldam base but I don't care about this too much. The lighting and coloring on this is whatever it turns out to be using this palette and eventually removing colors. Its a fantasy thing so I not really caring about the 'realness' of it.

I think there needs to be more variety in the cracks in the rocks.  The finished shading is pretty awesome but still when I look closer they it seems like majority of the cracks break the rocks into halves or thirds and taper halfway through..     Maybe have a few areas with some cracks going further into the rock and be closer together... make some thicker and maybe put some chips into the side of the rocks.....

just some thoughts, it of course looks amazing already.

Agreed!. I will wait until all the rocks that will actually show are determined,
rather than pixel needlessly now.

Question: Where should the flying car/zeppellin go?
Hiding hehind some rocks at the top or on that metal base I can't figure what to do with?
I'm thinking 1/3 antique roadster car, 1/3 Victorian Zeppelin and 1/3 fantasy.
also, is that new green glass building looking ok?

About the green glass building: What are those couples supposed to be? the round things next to the glass thing? For the rest I like it, and yes it looks like glass!

About the ships: Where would they come from? There is really no place to land here!
Send them out to sea. I would go for the position of the highest one but raise it just a little bit. Don't let it hide behind the rocks, I believe that you can make somethings very detailed and awesome of it, we have to be able to fully see that while there is enough rocks so it does not matter if you cover a bit of it by the ship..

Those green glass bubbles still don't make a lot of sense to me. Is it some kind of roof you can stand under if it will rain, and those glass bubbles make sure there is even more light under those roofs? Quite weird actually...

Great job on making something I totally not expected on the zeppelin :)

yeah, you could put that they shred some light out of them, that'd make them useful. :)

Just an idea, you could probably put some observatory on the top of the highest rock..? :)

I was also thinking about something like this.
A big glass bubble on top of the rock with a tiny stair running between the rocks.

Well, the roof is just meant to be architectural decoration. Seeing as how its not coming across too well I'll make a new roof :)

I don't know about an observatory because the whole thing is meant to be secret and hidden from public view. This is why all the buildings have a Victorian normal looking exterior. An observatory seems to kill this idea, no?

This is for those who wonder and like to learn from others.
Making odd shaped iso stuff is easy when you treat them like you would a figure sprite and start by making a skeleton first.

1- 2D circles based on the widest diameter to be used.
Drawn in different colors just to view easy.
These are then skewed to 26.5 (iso angle). Then 74% on the width. (74 + 26 = 100)
2- These circles are placed on the axis
3- I save all shapes I make for future use so this is an old shape done as above.
4- both shapes together. The reason for the shape is that I want the vehicle to be seen and a traditional zepellin shape would cover the car.
5- Based on #4 I then draw the shape. Notice that my 2Dcircles have center lines. These are how I know from where to where how lines go. General lighting is added and the tail fins are done just like #1.
6- Basic shape to begin from.
7- Axle from my iso stuff dump. (time saver)
8- Draw basic shape, could be anything, but again it all starts from the skeleton. This insures that everything remains in scale.
9- combined
10- Pixel fun can begin now. Even tho, for me, the fun is in #1 thru #9.
At this stage you can and should add as much as possible to increase visual interest. In this case I added small round mini balloons

*11- post in WIP thread, get feedback, then add more and fix or even start from scratch.

Glad my effort did not go wasted. I'll expect to see some non-boxy iso pixelart from you soon.

About the observatory. Notice my white mini drawing showing overall design shape. Adding any height outside my 'canvas' is not something I want to do here. Putting it any lower makes no sense so no observatory for this project.
The zepellin landing dock is kinda an observatory :|

Yu may have noticed I keep chnaging BG colors with every update. Well this is it this is the PJ gallery BG color \o/

Added sculptures in the garden, remade the ship (#11), new glass roof (thx guys, y'alls rock), more walkways and fixed stuff as I caught them.

new roof is waaay better! Also I like the zeppelin better, the whole thing just gets better and better and like everyone says awesome!

However, there is one thing I noticed while typing this :p

The right side of the image is way brighter than the left side. Of course you have the rocks there, shadow etc etc, but still. The right side has an almost white building, bright reflections on metal, while on the left side, even on the metal it never gets this bright.
I think you partly changed your style a bit while working, still I think with not too much efforts you can find some places to lighten the thing up.
Another example: I really like the bright color of the place where also the water reflections are. but in the hole next to the glass buidling with the weird roof, there is no such bright place. And yes it is a hole of course, but that other place is situated next to a building too..

@fawful, I don't see why c+c needs to come from 'some' level. All c+c is equally valid and ideas are not only for the the technically skilled, creativity and ideas are the most democratic thing on Earth.

@Lollige, you sir are quite correct. I have been noticing this myself even though I was not changing style I was consiously trying to have the right side overall fit into the Pixeldam base and then getting progressively darker as I would have done the whole thing. I will brighten things up a bit here and there.

@fenne,... then marry me :p

@Met, I kinda thought the Zeppellin being visible is ok because they did exist in Victorian times. I just hid anything 20th Century...just fantasy, gimme a break, mofo!...

How about Prof. Met gets it at Brokeback Mountain

I like your title, unless you're implying that i'm gay, wich i wouldn't care. not like i'm gay, gays are nice people. happy. i am happy, but not gay. because gays are happy. and even when i'm not happy being gay, i doesnt give you the right to look me down and parody my degree with your gay cliche movie. we, happy-nongay people have feelings too. i'm just non-happy non-gay now, hope yoiu're gay-happy. :(

Yeah that was silly statment really,i tend to not give any critisism if they surpass a rare level of impressiveness, but anyhoo it's a short lived habit that shall die an early death.

I cant help but think the rocks are a bit flitstone-ish(the cartoon not the stone),also i think the rectangular pool at the front should go around the rock, the way it is now it looks as if the rock arose from the ground after the water came about,i'd expect it to happen the other way around genraly.

There,a bit of c&c.

@JC, that is moss growing on the rocks. All yellow rocks there looked really wrong to me so I added the water to justify the moss growing on the rocks.
I'll make the moss patchy instead of all over :)
The zepellin is dark bronze and wood, but I see your point. I'll polish it up, thx.

For me the moss is ok and clear.

About the rocks: they all seem to be round. Like there has been water streaming over them for ages. Get in some real cracks instead of just some horizontal lines, and remove the soft transitions from horizontal to vertical space on the rock some times.
