Hey lovely people. I'm New to this forum and new to the wonderful world of pixel art. I'll start off with a little detail about my self: I'm 18 years old, go to college and a very happy person in general, You won't hear any vulgarities from me unless they are all in jest.

I started on my pixel form yesterday and was cautious about getting feedback on forums. Mainly because I know what forums are like, I'm kinda slow to certain sarcastic remarks so I make a fool out of myself. If i was a video games character I'd be Luigi. Going off topic now I see..
Here's my piece and

The blue box sort of thing was when i tried dithering without applying it to the image itself... Sort of like testing my dithering capabilities.
Okay. So. I require criticism but mostly negative criticism because I want to improve.
As you can see from the piece I really need help with dithering, eyes, and some colour (this is what I think) If you feel I should tend to other aspects too then please bring it into the light.
Thank you anyone who reads this and any criticism will be deeply appreciated!

Welcome to the forums. They're a quiet bunch so don't expect any quality critism too quick. You could outline the edges a bit more, btw, otherwise it looks good.

Hey thank you!
I...Um...Just need to know how I would outline the edges more. I have observed a number of tutorials on pixel art before I thought I'll give it a go.
Sorry if my English gets aweful.

Well, i had a look at it and to be honest, there's no definition of the outer edge. As someone "ben i think" Said, you need to define an outline which can be done with a darker colour, than that of the shadow..

Personally, i wouldn't dither trousers, well maybe a bit but not loads.
Good first go though :D

Thank you Bren and Quake!
I reckon I need some lessons on defining the outline. When you said use darker colours, I can't really go any darker than black... So that is where the improvement is needed.

I'll Edit this with the changes after one of you good people are able to give me a quick how-to outline edges more. Cheers!
Oh yah that's a pretty please

Lies! Secrets and lies! WE'RE A VERY LOUD BUNCH, YOU JUST DON'T KNOW WHERE TO LOOK! :P

Anyway...

First off, Aeyon, welcome to pj. Hiya.

Now, as for the piece. It looks pretty good. But what's that box on the side?

And you might want to move the mouth down one pixel. I dunno, see how different it makes it look.

Also, his, left shoe, add one pixel between he shoe and the jeans on the very bottom.

'Kay some very minor changes, Just GreenRaven said.

I need help with doing eyes.. I feel there isn't enough pixels on the face for eyes...I feel they would be too basic like 2-4 pixels. the left strand of hair covers my eye so yeah I'm kinda lost on the face.

I think there is too little contrast on the jacket and too much on the pants.
Other than that its pretty good. Try a little less saturation on the pants as well. Hope I helped.

Don't even think about dithering until you get the volumes and line art fixed.

Welcome and just keep at it, patience is key :)

*notice we keep our siggys to a minimum so that we can concentrate on the pixelart and not be distracted. That yours isn't even pixelart is all the worse. Just a heads up, no offense or harm done...             yet.

Hehe I got plenty of Patience.
Yeah I felt the Siggy was out of place.
But yeah guys tried some changes! Check it out.
Has it improved? I tried messing around with the contrast. Correct me if I'm wrong, the shades of colours were too similar before right? that is why contrast was needed?

Can any one see the image? bah got it working Photobucket can be strange...I have to rename the image if it has been changed otherwise the image comes up as deleted...

I think you need only 2 colors on the jacket. And the jeans still have too much contrast. I ll try to do an edit to show what I mean.

And yeah, the image is showing up.

EDIT: I got too lazy to do the upper part. And my edit of the jeans is not actually good. but I think you can take a look at the colors and see what I meant. And ignore the sh*tty attempt at doing the face. Its sh*tty :P

Ah okay I see.
That clears up a lot.
Thank you dude!

Edit: Just one thought on it.
Don't you think the colours get a little dull? Or am I trying too hard for my first pixel piece?

Pillowshading, oh noes! Colors are good though.

ontopic: Your shading went into the right direction. You could just use one more (midtone) color to get the gradient a bit better. Just look at some examples (on google or so) to get a good example of how jeans should be shaded.

Anything else? Nope, keep up the good work
