In my attempt to get more involved with PJ's community I will post a WIP thread for ya'

it's an underwater scene I've been working on and off on between soccer

I have two color versions: a lighter:

and a darker:

At the moment I prefer the darker, but I'll leave it to you guys. ;D

I have a few other WIPs but one's close to being finished and the others aren't as high priority to me as this one is. Comments are appreciated...!

the helmet is turned too far to the left (away from the monster, though twisting a diving helmet is quite a task regardless).  The elbow is ill-dfined, the biggest bend in the arm looks like it occurs about halfway up the forearm.  The legs look a bit too thin for the body, the femur looks a bit too short, and I don't think we should see that much of the top of the foot (could be wrong).
Coming along nicely

I prefer the darker - more contrast.

In addition to cure's observations the creature is inproperly lit and is quite undefined, shapewise and volume wise.
For colors I find its all too blue. The green grass would cast some greens in the water. I find almost always underwater needs violet, green and blue.

Thanks for blessing us with a WIP to flame

thanks for all the comments guys, I'll work on this saturday ;D

Jal, would you mind providing an edit or something to help with the monster's volume? I felt it had enough, but you're usually right, so if you wouldn't mind :D

And maybe show me what you mean about the colors, as well. :)

Thanks!

1- shows what I think the creature looks like from the side in my view.
2- shows what I think is a better layout. Your original seems very crowded in and the creature is not as menacing because the diver is so close to it. The element of surprise by the creature would be more effective if it is a little farther away, me thinks. Notice too the angle of the rocks/coral. Yours seems shapeless and with no perspective. Using dramatic shadows in the rocks will help define a lot of depth and establish the perpective. Use some fading at the edges to set it in.
The octopus is not working and actually demands too much attention. Consider a school of tiny fish instead (use school as a blending pattern < water trick :)
3- shows the volume and shape I spoke of earlier. Your original seems very flat/2D. Even if you take no suggestions from my image do shade/shape/form the creature more than you have.
4- shows a green gradient in areas caused by plants and general casting that happens underwater. If you examine underwater photos even when they are very blue will have greenish cast here and there to some degree.

I know my man does not quite have the look of yours but I'm only trying to show the angle of the body parts that match the perspective. You man's body parts are going in all directions. The tank is entirely off. This is what I think cure said too.

One last thing about the man. Yes, he is wearing a heavy metal suit but it should also look bouyant and a bit floaty since its underwater. Your original seems very heavy and full of gravity.

Damn, I love you Jal. Our team just won the regional soccer finals, so I'll be busy this weekend playing MORE soccer. :D

I'll work on this sooner or later. Thanks for the great edits and comments, people. I really appreciate it!
