Ok...so here's what's goin' down...
Beholden! I shall refer to this picture and the stuff in it often in the following paragraphs.
(Disregard the grey on Turborang, he is awsome enough to not use all his colors I guess. Feel free to do the same.)
Ok, so here are the rules!
You are making the hero of some imaginary NES game, left to your discretion.
You can either use the base models or create one of your own. Feel free to do any pose you want, even showing off your attacks!
Colors: You may select three colors, black and white are freebies, transparency doesn't count as a color.
Image must be a Gif, for that authentic NES feel!!
Names are optional, but it may help you win...
-----------------------
By the end of the month, or longer if everyone wants it, everyone will vote for their favorite characters of each category...
1. Retro rating: Based on all the glorious fads of the eighties, like ninjas and laser swords! An example of something non-retro would be a character based on modern day fads and ideals.
2. Color usage: It can be quite tricky using your limited colors to full effect!
3. And originality!
Let the battle commence!

(Dragon Suits)-- Those soldiers are heavyly armored yet very mobile. Armed with ion rifle, they perform chirugical operations in enemy bases and  low altitude corvettes. They are strong against Troll suits but weak against Griffon suits.

Hmm...very confusing...what's the pattern? Megaman has 5 colors. Black, white, blue, other blue, and tan. Definately feel free to use less for a better retro rating or color usage rating.

that's because they were clever when they made mega man.  All the sprites in that game were layed out in an 8x8 grid (all the sprites in any NES game were layed out as 8x8 tiles, actually), and each tile could have a certain pallet index assigned to it.  Megaman's body was a completely different sprite than his face, and they both used completely different palletes.

(I'm no programmer, so my terms might be wrong)

see?

it's good to know your roots, sometimes..

by the way.. that's a shot from megaman 2, using tile layer pro.
roms are illegal unless you own the original game.  I own megaman 2,
so no worries.

Check out Nintendo's corporate site and they'll tell you that ROMs in any form are illegal. It says in the back of every game manual that it is illegal to make "backup copies" of the games, which is what ROMs are sometimes said to be. There is nothing that makes creating them, possessing them, or distributing them legal.

They're never legal to own.

Here's mine, he looks best on a dark BG so I left it untransparent. Haven't needed to animate in a while...

It's the Wolfman! The evil Doctor Radical kidnapped his girlfriend, and he transformed into a muscular wolf-man to rescue her!

4 colors, not including the BG, didn't use black or white, but I did pull a Megaman kinda thing and added his red shorts on another layer, improving the look a lot. It all fits within a 40x32 box.

Edit: Just had to add Doctor Rad as well. (Went slightly overkill on his animation, but at least he's only 3 colors :P)

Troll suit -- Heavy and versatile land suit. This is the most common used suit. Its used in most any land combat situation. Its altho very weak against any flying suits such as the dragon suit.

Nice subtle animation. This is more than three colors though eh?  Hmmm... might have to counter with a speedy flying scooter type unit.

nvision: Nice work on the Greek vampire.

Pawige: Man they are soo cool. I absolutely adore your colors and the animation.

(huh so much praise from me )

nvision: nice, reminds me a bit of sals' stuff. But that's maybe because he did so much vampires...

That's a really tempting collab... Sedge isn't that something for you Mr. low-color?

I don't have access to my webspace from here, so I'm uploaded this to the joint, I can take it down later:

It could be that the animation is by far too long, and I didn't shade the goblin, but oh well. I used three colours including black plus transparency.
I also didn't  put too much love in the anim, it's mostly copy-paste, sorry for that :(

Ok, here is my entry:

You can guess 3 times who it is on this picture.

Yes, its inkspot, your greatest enemy! Its toxic thick oil type ink what is alive and can form shapes and can lift a gun, as seen.

But well, I am kind of pissed because this animation is pure crap but I messed around like whole hour in Image Ready and canot even edit an imported picture... Whole hour I just inserted pictures what I drew in MS Paint. Image ready is so stupid and useless, thank god I haven't paid for this piece of crap!

So, here is the unanimated yhing, for better look:

If someone knows a program what is suitable for making gifs from several drawn pictures, then please tell the name of that program or I will come and crawl into your brain from your ears and nose!

Thank you.

f**k, it looked better on a background. Not enough contrast. I actually did it by accident. It wasn't ment to be an 8bit sprite.
