Hey pplz,

This is a scene i did for a small intro to a game. Erm..

First off, I know there's a lot of things wrong, and I apologize for the quality of the pic. I just went with a jpg because I'm not sure what this site accepts, so I just did a quick save in GraphicsGale and uploaded it.

Yeh so as I said I know there's a lot of off things, the reeds at the bottom are probably not varied enough, and yeh there's a lot of off pixels in them. That I know how to rectify :)

The main problem is.. I've never done water before, I just kind've chose a bright color for the reflection, and drew some wavy curves, then copypasta'd.

But I'm sure there's a much better way of doing the water.

Should I do one really long wave, or a whole bunch of short ones.

Any tips, or things you think I could add to it are welcome

EDIT: Oh btw the outline color of the trees (dark brown) goes all the way around the tree tops, for some reason in the color/quality loss it seems to have gotten rid of them :(

Hate to say it, but since you've already saved it as jpeg before, you'll have to restart, and remember to use png or gif.
The sky is not pixel art.  Using photoshop gradients are pretty much forbidden for true pixel art.  You could easily get a decent looking sky in 8 or less colors, with a little bit of dithering.
The trees look flat.  I see you tried a little bit of shading, but there's hardly any depth.  It just looks like paper right now.
The moon is really boring.  A plain white circle with a black outline?  That's it?  Don't be afraid to use reference photos if you don't know how something's supposed to look.

There's a few tutorials on dithering and shading, hopefully someone will post them (I don't know where to find them).  But anyway, don't be discouraged by this criticism.  You look like you have potential, so just keep at it and keep getting better!

Oh I have it saved in graphicsgale as a .gal

Yeh I wanted a retro look for the trees. But something that looked sharp (similar to paper as you said).

As for the moon, squint a little harder. It's not very noticeable at 100%

Thanks for the feedback :D

Make it noticeable, then? (Needz moar contrast.)

Also, I can't really tell how we're supposed to look at the scene, this is probably due to a lack of the depth on any of the elements on the picture.

One way I look at it, I can see somewhat of a river between two rows of reeds on both sides, with palm trees on the other side.

The other way I can see a straight side view of a scene. A lake covered in plants floating at the top of the water and reeds  growing at the bottom of the water.

I'm guessing it's the former, though.

Also, why is the sky getting lighter/whiter as it gets higher?

And remain consistent. (outlines vs no outlines?) (mixed resolutions?)
