heh, I just spent about five hours looking for platformer tiles to reference. Ended up just doing without.

These are looking quite nice.
I'd suggest looking at your rocks again, your trees and ground have a much higher level of detail, while your rocks look a lot like smooth bumps... They need a bit of texture.

Also, maybe try getting rid of the black outlines on everything? the sides of your cliff/dirt stuff doesn't have the black outline, and it looks really nice, but the trees and grass etc still do, and it makes it seem very odd.

I really like your flag animation~ You might want to slow it down a titch though, or animate the trees blowing in that heavy wind.

All in all, it's a good start~

I think that flag can have no relation to the mood of setting because it is
1. a prize for player, so it can flow exagerratedly proud;
2. Need to be distinguished from background.

I too think that it is a good start. But I also think that bottom of the crown of the trees and grass could use some more polish - now they are looking like messy hair. Also rocks that Ekobor mentioned wait for better rendering. Most of the rest is good.

First thing's first, the cave needs to be much darker than the rest of the cliff.

I agree with ekobor, get rid of the black outlines or consider doing selective outlining. Take the lightest shade of your grass and instead of shading it the way you have, think about where the sun is? Is it over ahead? Then you might want to consider making the tips of the grass stick out with the lightest shade in a more different way than just a single line of shading at the top. Hopefully that makes sense.

Give some darker definition to the lowest rocks on the bottom. Do more definition towards the bottom and then slight dark lights to the top so that they really pop out. Does that make sense?

You're starting pretty well. Your tiles are pretty seamless, but now you want to work on getting them to not look so uniform and identical.
