Hello you, Pixel Artists !

I'm ProMeTheus, French, 23 years old, student. I'm working on a Super Mario World "hack" or "mod" that consists in creating a few dozens of new levels on a new world map. To give a fresh, high quality look to this mod, I also want to implement new graphics, which can be easily done with the ROM editor.

Here's a rough listing of what graphics need to be created :
- 5 or 6 tilesets each composed of between 20 and 40 tiles. Each tile is 16x16 pixels, but many of them reuse 8x8 parts of other tiles.
- Around 10 backgrounds, mostly composed of no more than 10 different tiles.
- A few simple animated sprites (only 2 different frames), and 2 or 3 more complex sprites (mario, Yoshi and another monster).
- The overworld or world map graphics, composed of around 30 different, very simple 8x8 tiles, and about 10 16x16 tiles.
- Some objects to quickly modify / adapt to the new style.

The style / level of quality I am looking for is shown in the examples below, which is are Super Mario World tilesets I like, that another guy made :

I am willing to pay for this work, although not at standard rates since the end product will not be sold, but instead posted at SuperMarioWorld Central and other sites for everyone to freely enjoy. We can discuss this. You will also be credited on the game title screen, credits and on the download pages.

Please contact me by PM or by replying in this thread !

Sell this game on the iPhone for $0.99 and I guarantee you over 1000 downloads. The iPhone platform is very lacking in platformers and consumers eat them up.
This is not a sig, look away now. Go on, get.

Hey, this is a very interesting tip.
Does the iPhone have a SNES emulator ?
I don't think it could be legal to sell a super mario world hack though, right ?

It's not. Big companies tend to look the other way when free clones and fangames are made, but when they are sold without their permission, you've got legal problems.

Though somehow an NES emulator and DS emulator both landed on the app store somehow, plus Super Mario Jump, Mario Walk, and MarioTD. Apple can be a bit careless sometimes. But as long as you don't use anything licensed to Nintendo such as the Mario name, you're good to go.

I'm interested in the job position if it isn't filled yet.

You could change Mario the plumber for, Hilario the engineer. For example.

Not true at all.

Just because they haven't caught them or attacked them yet doesn't mean it's legal.  Even if they never do it's still illegal.
