Recently I've been working on this portrait and I'm kind of stuck.

non dither

dither

not sure which is better I think I'm leaning towards non dither. Also there's something going on with the neck but I'm not sure how to fix it. Any critiques are highly appreciated.

Do you have a referance image?
Right now they look like their made out of clay? Is that purposeful?
It may just be me but the angle of the face looks odd compared with the hair? Fells like it should e a 3/4 view rather than near on side view. Which might I add the eye and the mouth look like they have two different perspectives.
I'm not one to quote on anatomy though.
The world is but a shadow of emotion, cast in shades of grey.

neck and head seem to be at different angles, with the neck at 3/4ths and the head in profile. nose and mouth are in profile, eyes are skewed toward 3/4ths. ear is quite large and a strange shape. i'd recommend shading the hair is chunks/blobs and getting the lightsource down before carving out locks. shoulder/body very small for how large the neck/head are. also lightsource for head and lightsource for hair appear to be opposite.

thats my refrence.

update on shoulder placement. i tried to make it more like the refrence, even though the body is straight on and the face is profile i guess turning the neck. Thanks for the crits so far keep them comming

when you polish it up, make the hair cast a bit of a shadow.

and as it is the head looks kind of flat and kind of 3d I'm not quite sure how to go about fixing it though. maybe it's because your not done shading?

The ref you use is not very helpful.
Being cropped on the left doesn't allow you to understand the structure of the body in these regions; even if you plan to crop your own image similarly you need to know what is left out as well as if you didn't crop it; also the photo's light is lousy undefined on the neck area so you can't guess volumes properly.

Find others with similar poses. It's better to work from several refs anyway. Even if you follow one more closely, having other angles / shadings in mind can provide helpful hints.
