I'm trying to make this as close to 3/4th perspective, and similar to a young, lanky 13 yr old boy (similar to the Naruto characters)

Any idea to help?

EDIT: I updated it a bit, the chest was too flat.

This is really awesome. Nice detail. Only thing I have noticed is the view from behind. His lower legs don't look right? it's hard to tell if it is just the angle but they look a bit thicker at the bottom.

I notice that now too. Slowly making this look as close to a human body as I can with the 5 colors. Lighting and such.

I really like this! :)

Since there's a slight topdown angle, legs probably shouldn't be shoulder-width apart. Then again, it may look odd with them together. The top of the head looks a bit flat because it's all one colour, but hair would fix that I think :P

Working on making him look less hunched over. Brought his legs together one pixel, worked on the hands a bit for north and south. Also made the side view head 1 px larger.

Any help would definitely be greatly appreciated.

very nice! i really like this.
i think the back view still looks a bit hunched, i think the light gray shadow in the middle is to large.. reducing it might help. i would consider making the legs another pixel smaller, including the outside edge, to give it that 3/4 top down view.
love your shading almost looks like its made out of large polygons, like an old ff7 model.

The head angle on the top and bottom ones dont match the angle of the body. it looks like he's just perpetually looking at the floor.

I really want it to be correct, since it looks real nice otherwise, but unless your going for a very mopey or 'dark' character either the body needs to be foreshortened more or the head needs to look up a bit...

Was just a little confused on your advice, cause I'm still new to some of these terms. But I tried to make the eyes to the proportions of the body more.

UPDATED: Tried to fix the proportions a little bit and clean it up.

Basically either you need to make the head look up more or you need to make the angle of the body match the angle of the head, which would use foreshortening to imply depth. A google search should tell you about foreshortening pretty decently. After I'm home and able, i'll make an edit for you to demonstrate what I mean, but that wont be for a good hunk of hours yet.

I think I have an idea. I'll continue editing.

UPDATE: Hopefully fixed the perspective, if not... then I'm gonna have to research some more.

You seem to have gotten part of the idea - further things are smaller, closer is bigger - but its a bit more than that. Perhaps more important is overlapping of body parts. Since you are seeing him from above his upper body parts will cover up bits of his lower body parts, which also results in him looking "shorter".

I made a quick edit. I also noticed you use a lot of near-black for each color. you only really need one.

Well, the black was to represent the shoes. But I get what you're saying now. I'll make a new edit in a few minutes. Thanks for the help.

There was a black for the shoes, a dark/near black for the pants, and a dark dark gray for the skin. I changed them all to the shoe black in my edit and I can hardly notice a difference. Keeping the color count down seems to be a big thing around pixeljoint. Not that everything has to be super-low colors, but there's no point in having 3 almost identical colors

and your welcome. Hope it helps :)

Hi, good work, good progress.

(Normaly I would agree with use of grey-ins palete for setting the base shape.) At this point though I would change the pal to human (skin) tones.
Like this he justlooks like a  zombie.

He is far too tall for 13 year old boy, especialy if he - like Naruto - is supposed to be asian = shorter figure.
The inconsistence I think is one of things making him look skinny.

Also hes plain skinny now. You get that feel looking at the shape of his chest.
It shouldnt be same volume on top and bottom body even for a boy.
Also his legs end up in very tiny way. I know its stylisation, but imho it doesnt work.

Why are his knees together ? (seen from front) Sorry for saying that but it makes him look shaky, scared or as if he sh*t his pants.

Again if he's 13, then a different stance would show that better.
13 year old kids are happy, curious and playful. Not standing around like angry pub fighters.
Raised head (instead of reclined you have now), more relaxed pose, no clunched fists ... that all might convey that.

Im not saying that you have to change all this, since that would probably mean starting from scratch. Thought it would certainly help the quality. Just ideas that popped in my head, inspecting the sprites.

Here are 2 (bad qty) images (from "Megaman something and other"). Thats something I imagine when you say 13 year old boy. Of course in manga\nintendo-ish style.

The side view is always something that's tedious as heck for me to do. But I believe I made him more child-like.

its looking better :). try to get some more definition on the stomach like what H|F showed though (or even as you had in earlier updates), unless your going to cloth him later anyway.

For the facing down one though i think you should put a blue pixel where that orange/background one is between the hands and pants, as that's what gives it the 'bent in' impression that Riva mentioned.

I disagree that the pose should be changed though, since he's obviously a fighter.

The only big issue i see with it now is that on the side view he looks unbalanced, since his feet are both far back. his body is already turned slightly, so the back foot should come forward a bit as well, something like in my edit.

Keep workin at it :D

Just some shading tweaks. The back view is a little annoying to me.. It doesn't look 3/4th to me. And I can't figure out how to make it look more 3/4th.
