Hello everyone!

I'm brand new to this forum- in fact, I didn't know it even existed until moments ago, and I had to join instantly! What a great place!

I'm an art teacher by days and freelancer by nights, and sprite work and pixel art are great interests of mine. ( I even bought a SF3 arcade cabinet, for its one of my formative inspirations!) I look forward to work on pixel art and just learning from everyone!

My very first attempt at making a sprite was sometime last year, and it has quite a few flaws! I'm going to work on it more and really make a primary skill! Feel free to check it out here: http://arttronik.wordpress.com/2010/02/12/pixel-art/

I warn you, it was a year ago. Improvement has happened! Even still, I'm open to any constructive comments!

Also, for those who love the pixel art of Capcom fighting games, primarily- check out a few things:

This is a blog post I wrote about the origin and ties to the SF3 character Gill. It discusses design, mainly.

This is an awesome post, my great buddy from college, Richmond wrote. It incorporates the twelve principles of animation into sprite work and dissects, analyzes, and educates! Well worth a read!

And of course, my blog- should you be interested.

I look forward to learning from you all! Let me know what you think of those articles!

if this is a WIP thread, you should post the image you want critiqued using the tree icon.

Hmmm, sorry about that. I suppose that we could critique my first attempt from the blog I placed in my introduction.

Ahhh! It's a jpeg!!Save as png or gif. When you save as a jpeg it messes up all the pixels

You should also post any references you may have used.

I didnt know that about the JPEG! Now that I think about it, it makes sense. I'll be sure to fix that in the future. As for reference there was none. I drew the character and then drew over it in PS. Check out the blog post for my exact steps if you want.

i'd be best to start much smaller than this if you want to learn pixel tech, helps you pay attention to pixels/ pixel relationships
