hihi. new to the pixel community, been generally working on small projects to get acquainted with the process.

this is my first bigger piece, a dreamy selfportrait, and i'm just getting started with the fun part- doing hair detail. still a lot of work to do on this piece but i'd appreciate any advice on shading hair in general before i get too far in... as i am supernoob.
anyways.

the awful dithering on the unworked hair is really just for colour placeholder for detail. i'm finding the line style i'm going with reeks of sloppy okekai though. any suggestions?

Assuming that she's lying down and this is a top-down view, these are looking a bit flat.  Overally they're cyclindical, so darker on the edges and lighter in the middle may give them a bit more form.

Also, you've got 2 different hair types up front and behind.  Having some dreds in the front falling into the back will bring everything together nicely.

as mase0ne said, there are two different and disconnected hairstyles going on here. the first is a girl with normal hair, then there are octopus arms that seem to emerge from behind her head, rather than the head itself. where on the skull are they planted?

you've also got a particularly short cranium. the cavity that holds the brain is pretty massive on humans. I'd also hide the ear on the right a bit, I doubt we'd see that much of it (or any of it) from this angle. save any dithering for the end of the piece.
