Practicing AA...

I smoothed the edges, (kinda) but I feel I have made the circle less circular in doing so... And I'm stuck on how to smooth the edges well and retaining a good circle :/

in some places, you're using single little dots of aa, instead of longer lines. see 'too little aa' in the tutorial. also, that dark grey isn't getting used near as much as it could. alsoalso, be careful about adding aa to 45 degree lines, they often don't need it.
and the two light greys are pretty close in value, you could lighten the lightest to get a better range.

Better?

Not sure how to soften the two lines that form an X without making checkered lines

You should probably try using a softer green; one that blends better into the darker green and the background. Also try a different AA strategy. I've edited a couple areas of the two different angles:
"Can you build websites with firefox?"
"Can you build cars with roads?"

I edited the bottom triangle with my method of anti-aliasing. I also left a smaller circle with lines drawn in, and I let the program aa it just to show how it's done by a graphics program.

K, so I went back and tried to add a lighter green, and add it in different ways.  Then I realized that it is like, near impossible to make the X lines not like somewhat checkered just because of how the line has to be drawn to connect the points.  So, instead I think I'll just keep the broken look throughout.

The piece will be dedicated to my favorite band, Tool.  Each quadrant will represent one of their four full albums, and the unicursal hexagram is in homage to the drummer:http://www.totaldrumsets.com/images/why-i-like-danny-carey-21427060.jpg

edit: yay, finally AA'ed the circle to the different backgrounds well :p

Again, you can make the line look consistent, like in the examples posted above, you just need to change the way you are AAing. I still think the two greens you are using are too contrasting to create the appropriate AA effect. In your edit the dark green is too dark, and just blends in with the black. Also, instead of placing the dark pixels in the middle of the line, try placing them in different positions around the middle pixels. You might have to experiment a little. I did another edit; I hope it helps.

great edit :) I definitely understand a little better now..  I have already experimented a lot and found a better way similar to your first edit, but the X lines were still too jaggy.  See in your first edit how even with a better approach, the middle section looks jaggy?

I will keep working at it; this stuff is pretty hard for my head to wrap around :p

and thank you

Edit: Was able to pull off the lateralus and Undertow album covers, I'll probably fail at the other two since they are harder to depict in such a small area

I do see that. :) I think your second set of colors is easier to work with.

It would be much easier if there were one set rule for AA, but unfortunately there is not. :P

I'm stuck on the final album.  This is what the album cover looks like:

Somehow, I need to incorporate this album into the upper right corner, but I can't figure out which part of the album.  If anyone has an idea, it'd be super helpful.

You could use the wavy-looking design around the big eyes and have it follow the edge of your circle.

That's what I came up with.  Now all I have to do is experiment with dithering textures on the circle and finalize -.-

well, the Seal of Orichalcos is a Yu-Ghi-Oh card xD  The card doe feature the same symbol, the unicursal hexagram.

If you're curious how the symbol relates to what I'm doing, read on:

"Danny then set up his drums into proportions utilizing the circle and square of the New Jerusalem and uttered a short prayer relating to the principles of the ace of swords from the book of Thoth. He then performed a ritual utilizing his new found knowledge of the unicursal hexagram to generate a pattern of movement in space relating to Fuller's vector equilibrium model. The resulting rhythm and gateway summoned a daemon he has contained within "the Lodge" that has been delivering short parables similar to passages within the Book of Lies. Danny recommends as a device of protection and containment a thorough study and utilization of the underlying geometry of the Temple of Solomon for anyone purchasing their next record."
