    Posted: 19 November 2011 at 12:46pm
So I've been learning how to draw heads for a while, and I've done a little practice with it for last few hours. I was a little worried about a project that I was working on and decided to make this. Not having a lot of people around here, I decided to post it on PJ for some good 'ol C&C.

So here it is. What do you think?

I know it's small, but it was practice.

By the way, not including the transparency, this pic took 7 colors to make.

the head seems to be good in shape, but you should work on the palette. its hard to make out the facial features with the color levels and hues so close together

great head shape. 3/4 is my favourite angle to work with.

you need to define the facial features a little more though I can't see the eyes or anything.. at first I thought it was just the way you drew it , kinda , with eye sockets but blended out the eyes on purpose but zooming in shows that you did draw eyes, they're just really really closely coloured to the skin colour..

yeah, like I said before, this was a practice head. I didn't make colors for the eyes, so I just used some roundabout colors to make the eyes "shine" a little.

As for the colors, do you think I should the skin shine more in places, or perhaps alter the palette a little? He seems to be a little monotoned, if that's a word (spell check's not happy with it.). My palettes aren't that good in terms of versatility. I still have to make one for each piece that I do.

Also, how about the dithering on the head? I've looked at a bunch of faces on PJ, and found that many artists used dithering heavily on their faces. I'm not good at it, and every time I try to do it, it doesn't come out right, save for my avatar...

Wow, that looks so much better in comparison to mine. I guess I'm still a little too timid with the use of contrasting colors, as well as non-neighboring colors, like that green your using.(at least, I think it's green...) I have a tendency to keep them rather close together, but yours, in my own opinion, are rather further apart than where I would normally put them. They work so well together, though.

One other thing is I have a bit of trouble with dithering. I always think that it doesn't look right, or too pixelated. Once I get more time, I'll just dither my head off on some practice stuff, and then take them here for C&C.

Thank you all for replying to this post. After having one complete failure of a post, I was worried that no one would reply to this, especially since it already had quite a few views with no one responding...Thank you all so so so so much.
