Its OK but the colors could be better. The clouds should be clean and tidy and the grass is over-pixelled...slightly more overall contrast too.

*Please remember that while we like to help, we like to pixel our own work too. Give others time to reply.

Just to make clear the position PJ takes with derivative work and their addition to the gallery and even how it relates to pixelart overall.

Refs are fine and many do use them. Copying a ref can serve some purpose in that its practice, which is always good. Others tend to have less respect for ref'd art as it does limit originality and creativity.

Using other pixelart as a ref is a very touchy subject since the work has been done already. Copying a pixelart piece is technically a RIP even if made by hand and is never allowed. A fanart version of existing pixelart is always on a case by case basis. This is fine and many great pieces of fanart exists including the #1 piece in the HoF.

Pixelart made from ref material that is not existing pixelart is fine. Here Angry Birds is well known to be NPA and any pixelart version of it is perfectly fine with one major caveat. Plagiarism is uncool and intellectual theft. As artists we should ourselves be responsible to shun this behaviour at all times. Fanart is entirely different on both the technical and legal side of the issue.

Aww jelonso.

I think they're just drawing things to get some practice in..

Angry birds is like 2x bigger than this small rendition of it and i would say definitely falls under the 'fan art' category..

but you're absolutely right, of course.

We should all be very careful when drawing from reference, especially when copying to the T

And we should all try to be a little more creative than just copying stuff.

But I believe this piece to be an exercise of sorts. purely academic/for fun/learning experience.

That being said, it's probably best this conversation happened early on. Right? =P

The main problem you have is choosing colors. Your colors are VERY oversaturated, and they just don't look very good. Everybody who entered a palette into this competition did a very good job, and they will let you use their palettes, or you could use them for reference. Just remember to give them credit.

If you'd rather make your own palette, this can be very helpful. Everything else will pretty much come together if you have good colors.

Hope this helps.
