I've been creating digital art of various forms for the last year or so. I recently started experimenting with pixel art techniques for low res game sprites and textures. This is my first non game related pixel art and I would like to know if there is anything that I can improve. I am working from DawnBringer's 16 color palette. DawnBringer's 16 color palette.

the eyeball looks really good, as does the liquid around it. i might add a separate drop or two or make the pool branch out a bit more in one spot, but i think that's more a personal taste thing than a technical issue.
i haven't worked with a pre-set limited palette before, but have you considered other options for the background? the colors blend fairly abstractly. are you trying to represent something specific with the gradients, a wall or a curb maybe? |

I like the veins on the eyeball, and escpecially the nerve(?) behind it.
I guess what I'd like to see is some kind of texture on that grey floor area. I haven't worked with pixel art in a little while, though, so I'm in no position to give you advice. :P currently working @: kirjanpito Lahti |

Dawnbringers' is a great generic palette, but it doesn't work as well on a specific piece like this. I'd suggest you use a custom made one.

Thanks, adding more liquid will help fill the foreground a tad. The background...yea. I'm not really trying to represent anything (probably the reason why it turned out weird), it just looked flat and boring without anything there. I will revisit that. |

Second iteration of the eye. I added a few colors to the palette and changes a few things.

The bricks back there are tiny, so that eye looks massive. I also the droplets and the wall clash in perspective. The droplets i think need to be made shorter, so it looks like they're at more of an angle.

The idea that I am attempting to portray (but failing at) is that the eye is on a table. so the wall is several feet behind the eye. Not directly. I have several other background ideas that I am going to experiment with. I noticed the same thing about the droplets about 5 mins ago. :D |

Spent some more time on it today. Flattened out the bottom of the liquid drops to match the perspective more and I completely redid the background in order to match the idea that the eye was laying on the ground close to the wall.

Thanks for all the feedback! I think I learned a lot. Here is, what I hope, is the final product. Based on the advice of some of my other contacts I removed the large crack in the upper left and replaced it with smaller ones coming from the edge of the brick. I also touched up the edges of the bricks a tad. I've submitted this to the gallery, hopefully it will be pass the bar. :)
![]() *hope I am not violating the bump rule with this :(* |

looks really good like that, a lot more cohesive and polished than the first few images with the other backgrounds.
