So after the failure of making a piece using Ptoing's style I thought it'd be better if I continue to progress in my own style.
So here it is: ![]() This is my first try at making a huge piece. I made this is windows 7 paint using the pencil tool. I am not happy with the line art because its so much jagged and messy. I wanted to know is there any simpler way to clean the lines through any program or you guys too do it manually? |

Pixel art takes patience my friend.
Most lineart is cleaned and refined manually. If you want quick and easy, go into digital painting with Photoshop or the gimp. as for your choice of program, you might want to reconsider using windows 7's version of paint because it uses anti aliasing on many of its features now such as its paint brush and its text box. it also tends to save as a .JPG by default which can get annoying. You may consider checking out some of the other software available such as graphics gale, the gimp, that one free Photoshop alternative i forgot what it's called.. (or Photoshop if you can afford it =P). Tools such as layers and a more robust palette display will benefit any digital artist. as for the picture its self, cool charizard. Refine those lines and give it some shading. =) good luck! Edited by Partack - 19 May 2012 at 6:44am |

My advice is to start with something smaller! I challenged myself to make what I thought was an achievable goal and it turned out to be way too much for my skill... and that was smaller than your piece above =)

Took the advice of Partack and Beef_x and made this:
![]() Thanks to Delicious and A3um who told me how to create good palettes. I like the outcome and hope you guys like it too. This is still WIP. I have to shade the wings and add the belly. Comments appreciated. Edited by A2J2TIWARI - 21 May 2012 at 2:46am |

Looking good, although that neck gets smaller in the middle which looks weird.
It's definetely easier to work on small pieces, and it's also where pixel art gets interesting I think... big pixel pieces tend to be nothing more than tedious digital drawing and loose most of the characteristic aspects of pixel art (that's not true for iso of big pieces with lots of small detail obviously but big portraits for example are often quite boring) |

I'd try using a little more contrast, especially by making those darks darker, should help the features 'pop' a bit more. agree with the crit about the kink in the neck.
