Hello everyone,

Several days ago I've started to learn pixel art (I was always fascinated by it) but yeah I'm a programmer and art is quite difficult for me.

I know it's a long road to learn something new but maybe you can suggest me anything that will help me to move forward faster.

This is the video of the game that I've started yesterday: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M0CohMKL9xo

Screenshot:

If you have any suggestions for me (especially when it comes to games and animation) it would be awesome.

Thank you!

The character looks like the Simpson's character Sideshow Bob! (could be good or bad)
Actual light coming from the lightpost would be nice.
The perspective of the boxes are real weird. Like, it looks like a trapazoid uneven box.
As for animations I found working at lower fps then stretching the animation helpful (probabally bad advice). Try playing arround with programs like Pivot to learn about limb structure and solid movement. I found it helpful for when I went back to pixel works.

@crozier, thanks for suggestions, I'll look into "Pivot". Yeah I agree boxes are pretty weird.

I have a little bit update:

I'm having hard time connecting different parts of the map. Any suggestions on this area? It looks like you need to have tons of different tiles to use them once just to connect some other parts.

heres a quick edit on the new scene

basically right now everything is kind of gray and low contrast.  Make some things pop out more, have light hit some surfaces more, like the top of things.  Add shadows and highlights.  The pipes look flat, try to make them look like there are popping out from the wall not just drawn on the wall.
