Hiya guys, Im actually completely new to pixel art, but not art in general. Ive always admired it, especially really detailed stuff like in metal slug or stuff other crazy dedicated pixel artists out there do, its incredible, but ive always been too intimidated to try it out.
Admittedly, I can see anatomy and perspective problems with this, and I am not very good at coloring/shading in any medium but I am pleasantly surprised with how fun the pixel medium is and I think I would like to continue experimenting with it, what do you guys suggest I can do to improve?

IMO, do anything you feel motivated to do : sprites, avatars, lettering, landscapes.

Don't hesitate to try both pixel art and other forms of digital art : tools like MyPaint emulate traditional tools like pencil and paint, so you can draw as good as you do on traditional medium.

In any case, on the computer the paint supplies cost nothing, and you can undo errors and make backups.

Digital mediums are actually my favorite. Its actually what I started learning to draw with. I'm too spoiled by Ctrl+Z to use pencil and paper...

So.. I am going to follow your advice. I am motivated to attempt an animated sprite of a person walking. Im trying to get down the animation before i go ahead and try rendering. As you can see im not so great at animating, any advice would be appreciated. It looks funky because I made it way too big and had to downsize it a tad, I'm going to go over everything of course when I am satisfied with the animation. No inbetween frames really yet.

If you want to learn the detailed metal slug stuff, start out small! This walking animation can do well at 32x32 for example. Learning to get all the features in properly at this size will teach you to do details at huge scale too!
That! first thing you showed is also enormous, how about trying that 64x64?

Good luck!
