Hello guys! TXR here. I just signed up here but I have been on DA for a little while. I started pixel art about a week or two ago but I think im doing pretty good so far. You can check out my stuff on my profile or at DA for everything! I have started a project on DA called The Isometric Tower Project!

Basically you can read about what the project is below. There is no due date so whenever is fine. Once your done just post up your parts here. You may make mroe than one! I will put them all together every once in a while and update you guys when I do that. You dont have to be good at pixel artwork! Anyways! Read below! And the original topic link is at the bottom!

How it works
You make a floor of a skyscraper, based off the template and using isometric techniques.
I'll stick them together as more get added. Tell me if you want it added to the top or the bottom of the existing skyscraper. I want this to be really, really big, so make loads.

The Template (Made by Grey)

FAQ

Can I make multiple blocks?
Yes. You can also make them fit together, or make one extra-high block.

Can I have bits going outwards? (IE birds flying outside, open windows that stick out)
Yes, as long as they don't intrude onto other blocks. If you have a sticky-out bit that goes onto another floor (Like someone peeing out of a window), make a floor beneath it that 'finishes' it (The pee landing on someone).

How do I do these?
Some tutorials:
http://www.19.5degs.com/element/832.php
http://www.pixelfreak.com/tutorial/
http://www.19.5degs.com/category/619.php
http://www.deviantart.com/view/2866522/

Not that there's no point putting anything on the top of it, 'cause there will be another floor beneath it anyways.
Oh, and save them as PNGs, they're near enough lossless. Make it as complex or as simple as you like. It doesn't even need to be a floor of a building- be creative!

It might help get the ball rolling if you post your own floor first.

I am still currently thinking of an idea for mine. Right now I just have a somewhat shaded grey cube.

I can post the links to the two submissions on people from DA I have so far. And also tell you who else is in as of right now.

Blackmago's Submission

Princesinha's Submission (I will make it transparent before adding it.)

Also so far I have 3 other users signed up. Below you can check out their DA's to get an idea of what they can do. But liek I said many different levels of skill are waned and included.
Watchers (http://watchers.deviantart.com/)
GoldenCHERRIES (http://goldencherries.deviantart.com/)
Sameflux (http://samflux.deviantart.com/)
ManWithAPlan (http://manwithaplan.deviantart.com/)
Genken-of-supirittsu (http://genken-of-supirittsu.deviantart.com/)
Franticc (http://franticc.deviantart.com/)

That is everyone for right now.
Also I am still trying to figure out a way to submitt it to DA eventually. I am thinking of giving credit and links in the description to everyone who participates. But then I dont know if people will be angry that I am the author of it even though I started it.
Anywyas thats not your problem. If this is enough evidence for you that it wont fall through I would be honored to have you either participate or help like you said. If you would like to talk futher my aim is Noah5671, the rest in my profile.

I will hopefully do mine today, just need an idea, or some inspiration.

Thanks!

Just a suggestion, but your 'building' would look much better if you added a separator below each floor. It will give you building a better look than all these different colors just crashing into each other.

Like this:

See? And adding a simple gray color to your template will help define your light source too. (I noticed it's different in the examples you posted.)

This would give the overall look of the building a more defined character.

Again, these are just suggestions but as you said yourself you are new to this and I'm just trying to help you out.

I will be adding a floor as well. Once you hash out the details.

TehTXR listen to JJ_Maxx. You really need to police the light source or the project will look like sh*t.
I too will make a floor when the deatils are ironed out.

So I am sort of lost...sorry about this.
I understand what you mean by using a different floor and I will do that.
But before I update the whole thing...what do you mean by policing a light source.
I know what one is but do you mean like everyones light source must be shining\coming down from the top?

Well, whenever you are making an isometric project, there needs to be a set direction for where the light is coming from.

For instance, if you look at the gray floor I made, the light is coming from the left.

In actuality, the whole box is the same color gray, but the darkness of the color changes depending on how much light it recieves.

The top recieves the most light so it's the lightest gray, the left side the nest lightest, and the right side is the darkest because it's facing the opposite direction of where the light is.

What he means by 'policing' is that you need to make sure that all submissions follow the same light source. Otherwise it will look wierd.

Hope that helps.

Alright then...Here is the new set of rules!

Hello guys! TXR here. I just signed up here but I have been on DA for a little while. I started pixel art about a week or two ago but I think im doing pretty good so far. The Template (Made by Grey)

As you can see in this template...the light source needs to be the same on all submissions. This will help it look alot better. I am also putting up a template without the light source marker so that it is easier to start on your tower and you wont have to edit at all. Sorry to anyone that already started, that wil have to restart. Its for the better of the project!

Ugh, it was hard to do this shape since it was a rectangular prism, and not a perfect cube...

Anyways:

I realize that the images that are going to be put on top of the effect so my efforts were wastless but oh well.
Here's the stepping stone.

I'm well aware, I just thought it looked a tad too out in the open and not attached to it when I added color.

Here's mine floor.
I used the separator from upper floor cos I wasn't able to draw anything on the roof and it was weird

Btw. TehTXR what about posting a whole tower in a first post ? I mean all floors assembled.

I like this one, but I think the lines dividing the bricks should be a fair bit lighter.

JJ_Maxx, TehTXR: Thanks
TehTXR yes the ones already done .. im looking forward to seeing it.

Xero: Hmm you mean outline of all bricks ?

I know that border bricks near the hole could really use some work on the outlines, because at first I was going to put there a dragon head (and bad bad bricks would be hidden) .. but I was limited by time so I just throw a black hole with evil eyes there.
But maybe I will try a new version with dragon if i find some time and mood for it and i will look at those lines also.

Alright here is all the submissions so far put together...I did this fast because I said I would but I have to out to eat. I think its all aligned right though.

Once I get all the submissions I will put it together in an acutall thought out way so that it looks better and they go together some more. Right now they just looke randomized.

I wil also be adding a top to it and a couple floors on the bottom for DA.

Pleae tell me what you thinka nd remember anyone can join!
