Not sure how the shading is for this. I trying to simplify the art for my game, so this is what I came up with. I think I was consistent with my shadows...

What kind of game are you working on? I really like this character. In a point and click adventure, it could have an interesting up - down walk animation. I think it would look good even if only the legs are moving.

It's actually going to be a 2D Shooter. I am going to emulate the 2D Metroid games and add some mechanics of my own. Sorry!

I am really glad you like it though! Do you think I would be able to get this approved in the PixelJoint gallery??

I'm fairly new, so I don't know how strict things are, but I can mention a couple of things.

1. I have seen much simpler characters in the banner in the past.

2. The simple shading you did actually looks like a very professional style.

On a side note, I think if there is a simple animation involved... such as a head turn, a wobble, or some effect, then it's more likely to get approved. Also, wait here a little while, some of the pros should come around with much more constructive comments.

Also, google - point and click adventures to look at the pixel art related games. You will notice, that there are a few indie titles that use this style of art. It's actually what I'm interested in myself. Also steam has quiet a few pixel art content related games, not just retro shooters.

Sometimes simplicity is key.

I agree with your statements on indie games, but for me, point and click adventures don't really do it for me. I play them, but they don't interest me nearly as much as more involved/intense games (direct control over the character).

Also, if you saw some of my ideas from the very beginning of development, you would see that my current plan is much, much more simplified. :P It is hard to simplify things and still create something of the same quality (at least for me).

Thank you for your responses though! They definitely get me thinking more about things I wouldn't normally have thought of. :D

here is the running animation of the guy right now. I know he doesn't bounce, and it isn't super realistic, but right now I am just trying to get basic shading and see how this looks in my game. Also, it is a 2D shooter, so I can't have him bounce too much. What do you think?

Non-regarding the art itself you should try to be more consistent. In the first piece (that you submited to the gallery) your character doesn't wear shoes nor glasses. ;)

I just thought that it would be better for me to post it here rather than post it in a new thread all together.
