Hey guys i'm starting this up as an ongoing WIP feedback page for a project I've been working on over the last year.

I've largely been working on the games rules until now, and am only just starting work on the assets.

The project is a co-op multiplayer boardgame that involves players teaming up against various monsters and challenges in the course of their adventure. I'll go into more depth later but I wanted to keep this OP short and to the point.

Current Art:

Slimes!

Bear and Nymph (very wip)

Monsters so far:

Spiritwolf

Boulderkin

A few things to note,

* The art will be blown up and printed. So i'm hoping it reads will in both forms.

* The colours are very rough, I am colour blind and awful at colours oh god please help.

i'de love some feedback :)

First off, congratulations for doing sprite work when colour blind. :) I actually really love the wolf, especially at 1x size. But I have to ask, why are you using blown up sprites? I could possibly understand if you were making it kind of retro or something... And if you're planning to print, and keep this nice style. You may want to convert to vector art; that way the image will always look the same,, and can be blown up to silly proportions but keep the smooth lines.

I can't really see anything wrong wit this; I think at a push, I'd have to say that the two-tone scheme of the wolf is lost a bit due to the shading, which you may be able to make more distinctive if for your shadows and highlights, you introduced a hue.

It could just be because you're going for your own stylized look, but the wolf's legs appear a bit too skinny. Especially the back legs, but the leg on the left side in the front looks fine.

Also for the back legs,

Where I circled it, it seems a bit too high.

The only thing I notice that looks a bit weird is that while the left side of the face is in front of the leg, the right side is floating in dead space. Even though its the same size the lack of an outline makes it look smaller. So maybe outline that cheek too?

I like the colors, but it might just be that grey works well for a wolf!

Hey guys! thanks for the great feedback.

I made some of the adjustments you mentioned as well as a few of my own.

I thickened the back legs
Improved the positioning of the tail
altered the outline of the face
and altered the colours.

Let me know what you think! I'll have another monster up tomorrow.

@Xhukari, yeah the art will be vectored before print. I haven't done a lot of print work, so the size you were seeing was the relative bitmap scale equivalent. which was obviously disproportionately large and a bit of a silly thing to post.

I just wanted to get across the idea that these are not going to be "sprite sized" but enlarged and printed. i'll post a preview card once i've done a background image and hopefully what i'm saying will make sense.

I know, selective outlining and all that... but I feel like the dark outline on the tail is a bit to contrasting to the rest of the image. Also, even taking into account the body shadow, the light source on the back doesn't match the light on the tail/hind leg.

Whoops was meant to update this sooner but I got super sick for like two weeks -_-"

Anyway here I fixed the sellout on the wolf,

and pixeled a new enemy!

He is called a Boulderkin and is essentially a big grumpy rock. He is also one of the tougher enemies in the game. Looking at him now I have to clean him up a bit, but in general i'm pretty happy. Feedback is always welcome.

(On a side note i'm looking for some freelance pixel work atm so if anyone needs an artist of my level send me an email at lachlan.cartland@gmail.com)

Great updates. I like the rock enemy but wonder if the feet look a bit too human?

Use the jobs section to find freelance work and post your availability/refs/portfolio so job seekers find you since it will likely be missed here ;)

The wolf is great, the Boulderkin is too but the upper arms look too weedy to support the chunkier forearms well. I felt the lighter shade in the teeth and eyes could have a bit more use and help add a little more depth though so I made a quick edit -

Great call on the highlights there Samiboula.

edit1, actually the more I looked at it the more i found it a little distracting. especially along side the wolf. I've kept the top highlights but gotten rid of the highlights on the face
edit2, add a couple of variants!

I also tried to make the feet a little more monsterish and bulked up the arms.

Also thanks for the nice comments about the wolf, pretty happy with it.

Not to derail my own topic but... does anyone know how I would go about figuring out what my rates should be for freelance stuff? because I have no clue.
