![]() I found this image and it inspired me for the next pixel I am going to do. I will try to vary it from the reference pic but similarity's will be evident. Edited by Limes - 05 January 2015 at 9:44am |

Hi Limes. I think your palette is okay, but it helps to sketch out the scene and then add some colors. I can't really comment or critique on what you have until you make some progress on the actual art. Just make sure it's a basic sketch first with the palette colors so you can easily replace them if you choose to change your palette.

Thanks! I'll have to finish my challenge project before I start with this.
I'm glad I made a pallet that isn't bad for once :) |

Your perspective looks quite off. Have you made any construction lines or picked out a horizon?
One thing that particularly stands out (among numerous perspective issues) is on the building with the red windows, the near part of the roof slopes at a different angle than the far part. That can happen with complex roofs, but that one looks to be a simple gabled roof, where it shouldn't happen. |

mmmm. Thanks, the horizon is the grey to sky.
Honestly I am not going for a very "realistic feel" so perspective is the least of my worries, I almost want to to NOT make sense. Edited by Limes - 09 January 2015 at 11:01am |

Frankly I don't think there is much to gain from (mostly) copying the image and perspective etc. The mood is great, but other than as a technical test there isn't much interesting about minimizing the image.
Focus on what makes this scene work. The atmosphere. The way it's a warm winter scene. Why does that work? And then I think it'd be much more interesting to turn that in to a game-style scene something along the lines of this: ![]() Because artistic knowledge is not about how to draw a particular image, but about understanding how to use certain aspects of that image. Because nothing is 'new', and art is merely about recombining the old in new ways. |
