I'm noting down all of these ideas.

About snow; I'm afraid that would be kinda color limiting; which is something we're trying to avoid since the underwater theme. Yet most themes can include snow, IF someone chooses to do so. I will still note this down so we may use it at some point.

About fantasy setting; people, including me, love fantasy, especially dragons. All collabs we've done so far (guess you guys checked all 5 including this, if not, you can reach them from my profile info) contains fantasy elements because we never said "no fantasy" :) I think future collabs will also involve fantasy but setting it as a theme may be too limiting. We can do however a "medieval" theme and people who like would draw dragons & orcs and stuff like that.

On "sorcery" theme; Setting magic as a theme may be a good idea. I'll think about this, perhaps for a future collab.

@sjhwi1a; we've gone over all of these theme ideas. Unusual light source or different color restrictions are not very newbie friendly. As for scale, what do you have in mind? Some past collabs we did involved people at the height of 10 px but personally I think it's too small for non-geography-oriented collabs.

Apart from this I have a solid idea for the next collab (I can't declare because of palette competition fairness) but I'll present all of these ideas and more to all the mods and we'll decide together.

One thing that is a must is, the next collab has to look and feel differently from the current one. So, for example, war or cyberpunk themes won't be available for next collab (since they're kinda similar to postapocalypse).

I feel like the fantasy element has been heavy on all of them, so explicit fantasy theming would be repetitive. Also, it wouldn't really offer artists anything new since it seems like most of us to fantasy-themed stuff on our own or for games. I love fantasy, but I seek challenges like this for something different.

It would be nice to see more weird-specific themes like for the weeklies, such as incorporating a specific shape or interpreting a specific set of words. With the requirements of a pre-set palette and having to match neighbours, it could be really cool and quite different from the weeklies. I also personally find such themes less intimidating than very general ones.

I'd also like to see a different style, perhaps non-ISO. What if we all came together to make an RPG map, with the theme being the RPG's word-salad title? Or what about a Metroidvania with a pre-set general layout, where everybody gets a quarter of a room?
I find the general idea of everyone working on a template to be quite interesting. That is, where everyone's tile already has some piece of a pre-drawn thing on it that they have to include in the final tile. Really, I guess what I mean is I want to see more restrictions on the content of each tile, because restrictions are fun.

Quick post to let everyone know I haven't forgotten my reservation. I won't get much time before Sunday to work on it so expect it to be completed early next week.

Personally, I think eishiya's idea to go non-ISO for the next collab deserves some consideration!

@eishiya; The collabs have 90+ tiles and very spesific subjects as in weeklies might lead to repetitive designs or even worse; people getting bored. We can risk a weekly, but we can't risk a whole collab.

Also, we do not want to compete with Pixelation collabs. They have a place, ours does too. Ours is set to be newbie friendly, and that's where the ISO requirement comes in (it provides basic compatibility between veterans and newbies).

However if we can find a topic that people would be interested, I'm all for managing a side collab. RPG map is an awesome idea; yet I'm not sure about extra restrictions - it must not be too hard for newbies.

For a Metroidvania map collab, can you provide a layout? (By the way, before I joined PJ, they used to make room-y ISO collabs, but they somehow discontinued it).

How about "video games" theme? RPG map in ISO view, and all our favorite characters and environments from games on it. From Pacman, Rayman, Super Mario to, I don't know, Owlboy and Overwatch characters in some ISO adapted presentation of their environment.

I must agree with Geci; some extra restrictions can undermine final result of the image. Work with restrictions can be funny and challenging
for participants and experienced "pixellers", but I must admit that this last collab image is somewhat impoverished (colorless), compared to previous collaborations, because of the reduced color palette.

You do not have to agree with me, but I think the end result is ultimately equally important as well as actual work on it because it attracts new people to pixel art. And it is good and desirable. But, that's my opinion.

Irenaart, I'm also against too restricted color palettes but it's a staff decision, because smaller palettes are controlled easier by newbies and are more challenging for pros.

Video games fall into the same category with fantasy. Every collab has 10s of video game references.

I completely agree when you say the quality of the final image matters. I have (and will) rejected tiles that are drawn without any effort. But again many newbies honed their skills here in these collabs, so we choose to open all doors to them. The interaction between the new and the old here is amazing (which doesn't happen in closed collabs such as pixelation's).

But if there's enough interest, a side collab that we can do may be open to experienced pixellers only, if that's the idea.

(Really can't we do the RPG map isometric, with a much much smaller scale than this one? Would that be cool?)

I think for an RPG map, non-isometric would be more noob-friendly, since the more classic RPG view is much more familiar to people, and doesn't require as strong a knowledge of form.

OK let's try this as a side collab. Would any one of you be willing to help me with managing (including setting the palette, scale, light source etc.)?

@Gecimen: I'd be willing to toss my name in to help manage the side-collab in the new year :)

Maybe the name could be: ConspISOracy
If you want to be even more related to the theme, the pallete size would be 13 and it would use triangular tiling (instead of hex or square ones) and picture having a triangle shape, with n=10 (see picture, you can have 90+ tiles (the result is 100 tiles).

I wouldn't consider myself super experienced but I'm also not a newbie, and I feel like I know enough to help you set this up if you need it.

I was thinking about a 2D world (like Terraria) divided in layers like space-sky-earth surface/sea-underground-core, so you can pick a setting for the general theme of the collab. Also, it would be GREAT to make the scale a little bit bigger. Mercenary Kings is a great example of what I have in mind

Edit: I have no idea if this has been done before. Maybe? Since it isn't the most creative idea...

Hey guys, sorry I was on vacation.
83th and final update done!

Well done people, the final image looks amazing.

@keeling00; I have thrown all of these different tile shape ideas around at times. We have this Jal barrier against such "might be hard to do" things :) But the idea is noted.

@Pizzalated; 2D sidescroller collab? Definitely an interesting idea, I'm noting this down and if we somehow draw enough attention, we'll also do it as a side collab after the RPG map thing.

@pyrometal & speedycube; So 2 people is not bad at all :) The first thing is defining what type of map we are looking for. Then palette, then size, lightsource etc. We probably won't have a scale due to map objects being abstract-ish.  Can you give me your emails to discuss these? (and anyone else who's interested in discussing this).

You have nothing to be sorry about! We all witnessed you putting a lot of effort into your tile! What's more important is that you've learned some new tricks and techniques while doing it .

Yeah, I could't find the word!

About the theme, I've been thinking. What about movies? we could draw a bunch of recording sets and turn fantasy things into special effects, like a dragon made of cardboard, rods and strings.
