    Posted: 13 February 2015 at 3:42pm
Hello everybody!

I'm a pixel artist (sort of) and a webmaster of ZX-Art - the biggest collection of ZX Spectrum pixel art. I would like to introduce the archive to Pixel Art professionals like Pixel Joint users.

How can be ZX-Art interesting to modern pixel artists?
* ZX-Spectrum images (at least classic formats) have a palette of 15 colors and apply to 8*8 char based color restrictions, so this is true pixel art.
* The collection is huge: there are different styles ranging from classic game authors to modern demoscene graphics.
* The collection is sorted well: we've got tags, top100, ratings, detailed search, ingame screenshots, demoparties with best places. So, it can be a huge source of inspiration over 30 years of material.

My purpose is that a hugh online archive like ZX-Art could become a great tool and a source of inspiration for pixel art professionals, and I am ready to make new features and adjustments if anybody would have some great ideas.

Is there anybody who would be interested in short periodical updates here, on Pixel Joint Forum?
Some of modern ZX Spectrum authors are registered here on Pixel Joint as well, so I'm sure that many works would be familiar to you.

Sorry, I don't quite understand what gallery do you mean. Do you mean a public queue?

A gallery of game graphics by Dušan Balara from DSA Computer Graphix has been completed.

I don't know whether this fits the thematics of this forum or not? It's about game author - a remarkable one, if speaking about ZX Spectrum limitations. Dušan pushed ZX Spectrum to it's limits 20 years ago already.

For those, who haven't yet noticed: there is now a web-radio on ZX-Art. You can now listen to the best ZX Spectrum music directly in your browser: there is game radio, demoscene radio, 1bit beeper radio and exotic formats like Digital AY and TSFM. You are welcomed to listen!

All works of authors, party entries and detailed search results can now be downloaded as a single archive. NB! Archive preparation for downloading of all works from ZX-Art (about 8000 images or 4000 tunes) can take 1-2 minutes, so please wait a little after pushing a button.
Download, spread, make backups - everything is open. Please respect author's licenses where applicable.

We are also publishing the project development road map on five directions.
Current top priority is getting rid of some commerce modules and publish the source code of portal to the GitHub under some free license, so anybody would be able to start up his own copy for any non-commercial purposes or even help with ZX-Art development.

Music roadmap
Software archive roadmap
Organizational roadmap
Authors, users, people roadmap

Graphics/music from DiHalt Lite 2016:

Graphics/music from ZX Enhanced compo 2016:

More than 40 restored images from Microhobby Pixel A Pixel have been added.

The main restoration work has been done by Maria Veide. Without her help this project would have virtually stopped.

Thanks a lot for sharing this way (taking the time to include images in the post). There are not many answers, because there's not much to answer, but I'm sure I'm not the only one who is very interested every time you post them.

AWESOME! Lately I've been on a d/l binge to get inspirational folder for getting ideas when my brain doesn't want to be original. I just got done making a 300MB collection of PC98 graphics...now I'm gonna make one for spectrum. I actually find the spectrum's graphical limitations to be highly interesting because people deal with color clash very differently and it's always a treat to see something that looks good AND handles the color clash elegantly. It looks like a really hard system to make graphics for so anything at all looking good is just mindblowing to me. Good stuff.
