Hello I'm working on this new piece. I realise there is alot of work to go until it's done but I thought it would be helpful to get C&C, etc. before I get too much further. Probably should have done this earlier. From a technical standpoint, I want to move away from relying too much on dithering and improve clusters so for this piece I've decided to make a rule of no dithering. I'd also like to improve anatomy and general techniques like drawing the folds in his shirt. Also, the subject matter of my pictures tend to be very boring so I am also on the lookout for advice to improve the piece like composition etc. ![]() Also, here is my process: ![]() Thank you!

The shaved beard looks more like a makeup. Think about making it more bristle. |

Thank you for the feedback. It's supposed to be a very dense 5 o'clock shadow, not a beard, so adding bristles would change it into a full beard which isn't what I was going for. Maybe the drop in saturation and hue change should be more subtle?

I meant something like following (i.e. make hair area less uniform): ![]() |

I admire pixel art that has bold, striking clusters like these pieces by skittle and this one by Jiang. They have a super clean look that I haven't been able to achieve and that's what I'm going for.

For example, very detailed foliage, where almost every leave is drawn. If you remove that detail, then there will be no big reason to use pixel art, because vector art will do the trick as well.

![]() It's not a beard; it's a 5 o'clock shadow. It doesn't have enough volume for individual strands or clumps of hair to be visible at the resolution. If it is dense and short enough, from a distance it should look like a change of hue in the skin tone. An example of a slightly stylised version of this would be the heavy in tf2: ![]() This is the effect I am going for
