I've been away for awhile, But glad this form is still going strong
But what I have is, a test for body shape. The face, I absolutely love.
It's for a 2d platformer. I know they usually keep the characters small for Platformers'. But I would like to go for dramatic poses. You can't get that if you go the Celeste route or Mario route. theirs just little to no space to work with. I was just wondering how you guys would work with it.

Welcome back!

Of course you can go dramatic if you go low-res, Mario has a unique pose that is super iconic, which it already had when he was just a few pixels tall! But anyway, this size will work fine too of course.

I made her head a little smaller, the big head made her look older. she's a tween, so oblong shapes might be the way to go. But I want fluid animation so something like this would be a pain to get what I'm looking for.
looking more into the style of street fighter is more of what I want. I love the Celeste and Mario sprites, but I want something like this but simplified

Maybe I'm doing it wrong, but the smaller it is the harder it is to keep readability.

If you want readability at a small size, increase the contrast! A light skintone with black eyes, or a dark skintone with white eyes. Increase the difference in color between hair and skin, and don't pick a shirt color that is close to her skin color! For a small sprite, this is essential!

That SF sprite has some very small head for the picked face and body proportions. I think if you scale the body down a bit, it will look just fine. Otherwise it is very weird.

capcom had light from top and bit from left, so pick the light source and shade/highlight accordingly this will also mean changing outline brightness where light hits. You see on Sakura sprite where lines get brighter, mostly on top where more light hits.
Lose the black.Maybe save it for hair if shes brunette.
Overall dont use black outlines unless your asthetics is amazing. Then we know its a choice.
