315x175 Sorry if it isn't posted correctly. Will post again in a better way if so.
I know the background and foreground are pretty weak. They're not the main piece, but still... I'm maybe trying too hard to simulate the fog of the original image, so maybe I should just make it simpler. If it should still be complicated, I definitely need some pointers on how to do that. I spent a long time on that part as it is and it still turned out like that XD
For Bowser himself I think the main problems are the hair and horns on his shell. At least they don't look like candy corn anymore but I'm struggling with how to imply the color from the original image while also making it look dark. Since it's pixel art I'm also trying to limit the color palette.
Now that I'm looking over it again after some hours since I last worked on it, and also looking at it on its own; without necessarily trying to copy the original image, I can definitely see where some more shading would be useful (along his right arm and the top bangle(?) of his left arm for example (probably both of them, actually, just the right one especially)). I also tend to like darker colors so it always kills me a little to brighten something up so that's maybe another reason I'm hesitant to properly shade those areas. LOL
I definitely need to bring his right fingers in a bit more. I noticed that because the spikes on his bangle are much too far to the left side to make a circle with the rest of the bangle. I guess the bagle's acting as a kind of a contour line XD.
Also noticed how bad Junior's copter looks. Besides the colors maybe not looking right, I'm definitely struggling to give it a round appearance. Something about there being two sources of light in the original images might be what's throwing me off. Maybe since in this version there aren't any obvious sources of light besides Bowser's flames (which could probably benefit from some extra detail themselves) it would be simpler to just have the one source so that I can focus on creating that rounded off affect just from that one source.
Well anyway, If you'd be willing to offer advice on anything else that you think needs improving then please let me know. :) Even though it's probably not up to standard it's my first big complicated piece so I must admit that I'm pretty proud of how it's turned out even before fixing it up some more.

I only can see a issue with the mario size, he look more close to a real proportion of legs/arms/head than the really mario who is more cartoony.
