Hi!

I am new to making pixelart although I watch this board for quite a while. At first I "only" wanted to hire a pixelartist to work on the graphical part of my game, Townsmen. But over time, I started to take a peek at the WIP-section also. Now, because nobody was willing to work with me, I finally decided to create the pixelart myself. So, I read through this tutorial and took my first steps. I really like what I am doing because it is a welcome change to programming. Anyway, here is what I am having problems with right now:

1. Dithering of a sphere:

To me, the sphere looks way to "noisy" I tried different color variations but was never able to make a good transition but at the same time add enough depth to it.

2. Windmill

My first "bigger" project. There are a few things I am not happy at all with. First, the whole body looks really dull and boring. As the body is not straight, I think bricks and wood as a texture won't do. But what else? Second, The half sphere at the top doesn't look good at all. Any suggestions on this? Third, I really want to add many little details to it, but I can't think of any, a windmill can probably have.

Many thanks,
Max

the spehere you have seems reversed. there shood be a spot of
light in the middle of dark ness, getting darker away from teh source.
however u have a dark spot surrounded by light. check out
spriteart.com's tutorials, they have an amazing sphere tut there.

try adding texture, ie bricks or wood to the windmill. good start tho.

you can build round things with brick.. I dont know something about the windmill doesnt seem right.. i think maybe it's the perspective, but i cant put my finger on it.  Try googling some reference pics to see what details it should have.

Shark, ithe sphere is reversed because the light seems to be coming from behind, not front like you described.

wood is a very good texture for a windmilll. try making some beams stick out in a round pattern on various heights. they have such stuff.. allso there usually is a bit of a house nes to the mill (connected to the main cylinder)

to the mill:
Either redraw the wings to make them fit to the perspective of the door or move them a bit to the right, so that they get centered with the top, because then the perspective wouldn't look so wrong anymore.(the wings currently seem to face the viewer) Also try to do 1:1 lines on the wings to see if that would look smoother. AAing the whole thing would also be good and to make it less dull you might want to use more contrast.
