(That was me tapping on the screen, up there by the refresh button)

I'd suggest giving something a good dose of shock treatment. Like one of those rats. If I were playing a game, I'd very much want to electrocute the heck outta everything around me.

@MoD: huh??
@Saboteur/all: Lol, sorry for not updating in a while, still spazzed out with work and other things. Although, i was able to knock this up for fun and as something to add to the game which would be easy to finish:

HEHEH.

Oh and about the electrocution, i've already tried to animate the tesla coil although with lack of effort i failed. I will try again sometime soon though, and get some reactive animations for the enemies.

I did a small concept art for the zap. I dont exactly know how to go out animating it, and using it against moving targets, since yeah the lenght would stay the same.

maybe it will give you some ideas.

thats pretty kool lookin DiOxygen.  I think that an animated version would show the electricity branch of a couple of times into smaller streams, then re-combine with the mainstream of electricity.  The middle would probly twist around like a double-helix would. :D

About time for a new screenshot, anyone?

Oh, Larwick, I checked out the Larwickinator, that would be a pretty kool boss for one of the levels; I can imagine him just coming to life, like his intro animation would be him sitting, turned off, and then he comes alives, possibly gaining his color, and stands up slowly showing the mechanics of his robot body.  Just an idea.

UPDATE!: (New Screenshot with then new Corroder enemy in it)

That's cool for a zap but I think it should have a more bluish color. On first glace, I thought it was smoke.

@B_p: Thanks, and yeah you're right, i definetely rushed that one a bit too much. I'll have a go at fixing it soon.
@Di0: Awesome edit! It looks really nice, and i love the style in the way the energy swirls around. I'll have a go at making something similar and animating it. Thanks for taking the time to have a go.
@Demon: Nice screenshot, and yeah i've been drawing up some concepts for the Larwickinator sprite (although have failed to make anything too great so far). Also, i think i may change some parts of the 'HUD' or whatever it's called later on, if that's okay. Looking good though.
@Aleiav: Uhuh, although the bright whiteness is pretty cool to me, i'll probably give it a tint of either yellow or purple in my version.
@ThereIsNoCure: Thanks alot dude. Lol, not so sure i'll be even glancing upon that crown anytime soon... but i'll be trying my best ^_^

Ok, so at the moment i've got lots of things to fix etc. although to keep myself amused i've also been creating newer things. Sometime soon i'll make a list of all the things i have to complete so as not to lose track.

Thanks for all the comments, i really appreciate all the feedback.

you could use bezier patches for the lighning, to animate the current one i would just make a large bolt then keep reducing te width of each strand until some dissappear.

If your on about the little ship i did, it was an idea for his game?

All it was is an idea for a little ship, i asked people to animate it to see what it looked like so larwick also had an idea incase he wanted to create something similair to it for rustbug..

Spoon, feel free to post your own little wip thread for things that you need help with, and mention there that its an idea for Larwick's game. I'm sure he'll notice.
Your idea seems fairly generic, though, to be honest. Put something crazy out there, like a robot on a chain anchored to the ground or a doorway that fights back. Unique ideas are awesome (Which is ironic, 'cause neither of my two examples are unique).

Larwick:  for the level with buildings in the distance scener, if you want the different layers of building to scroll across the screne at different speeds, I'll need each layer as a seperate image.

Yup that sounds great. I'm actually completely re-doing the background for the second level so i'll get you them when they're done. Perhaps the ship level will have a few windows in which there can be a few extra layers (including a really up close one, with say trees or buildings that wizz by to show the speed).

You know what would be tight?  Having a section where rustbug has to go outside of the ship to get to the next area of the ship.  Would be a kool way of showing a no-gravity simulation, and Rustbug would be able to show a jet propulsion ability to move forward.  You could even include the Locust enemies in the area to try and stop rustbug.

 That sounds awesome.

There should be a door that is completely busted, and so rustbug must climb along the side of the ship outside and then gets to a point where it cant walk any further, because of huge turrets etc. and so must fly over. It's a bit odd but it could work pretty well, it'd be a nice change of pace.

Update coming in a few minutes (hours).

Uhuh, sorry for saying i'd update in a few minutes when in fact it took me a day...

And i want it better, it really isn't good enough...

I'm drawing up the second layer now (city), then the foreground (rubble, rusted robots), then the floor tiles (rocks, dirt), then the objects/enemies (more rubble, turrets, tanks, flying things... crap)... etc.

I should probably be working on the first level but it's far more complicated...

This is an EXCELLENT background. It's really well done. And the best part about it is I zoomed in and I wasn't confused so I might be able to actually LEARN from something this good, which is an added perk.

:) *thumbs up* I;d give it a 5/5 just by itself.

If you make more scenes like this, it'd be a cool place for a platform and a cage for the end of the game or the end of a level where you fight the big bad guy. Especially because it's all dramatic. :P Excellent.

Just thought of an idea from what Bifur said.  He said have something hat pushes you into the ground,

Which made me think, you should have little turret things that hover, search for you, SLAM into the ground and put out spikes to hold themselves down and fire :D

That would be a fun animation to make.

+ That background is awesome dude, and so is all the rest of the stuff, id of posted earlier but i could'nt login to the forums because of a cookie block thingy :D

that background is looking sexy.. what's it for? cuz its not tileable, so i suppose its gonna be for acinematic or something, or are you gonna make multiple backs and shuffle them?

That is an awesome background Larwick, may just test it out ingame.

snader: The background would be tileable, but I believe its still under construction by Larwick, so he may be making it tileable.

PS:  Been compiling a library of Physics FX for the game engine, should provide unlimited potential. :D

@Souly: Lol, sounds great, thanks.
@Okko: Thankyou very much dude, i spose it wasnt 'bad', just not what i was looking for.
@Aleiav: Ah, thats great, glad it may have helped in some way. To be honest it's far more like scribbly pixel art than proper pixel art, seeing as alot of the individual pixels i just spazzed on with the pencil tool. </confession> But yeah, do you think it could be a little too dramatic for the second level? Cheers for the comment.
@B_p: Thanks, i have no idea what 'demoscene' is but i'll take it as a compliment ^_^
@Monkeyspork: Lol, brilliant idea, i can picture it now. Would be terrific to animate. Thanks alot for the comment aswel.
@snader: Thanks, it's actually the main background for the second level, and so would scroll very slowly (if atall... i extended it a tad below though)
@Demon: Sounds great! How's the demo coming along?

Okay so, i worked on this a bit more, then COMPLETELY changed the colours. Perhaps i went a little over the top, but it's very atmospheric now, i felt the earlier one was too cold. Also added some stars... perhaps i did go a little OTT... thoughts people? I can always change the colours back.

The city and buildings are turning out very hard to make look good. Any tips would be great.

Cheers for all the comments again ^_^

I think it would depend on what the foreground is. If it's a cityesque type of thing, nah, I don't think so.

The new colors look awesome. As far as the buildings... I'm not sure what you're going for, but it would look interesting to have a sort of city below this big mountain. Definately would give it an ominous feel, like it was a volcano. If you're doing post apocolyptic world, it could be a burnt out city from a volcano that already erupted with bits of ash everywhere.

@Larwick: I was making a list of possible menu screens that may be needed for the game, and these are what I came up with:
  • Title Screen
    • "PRESS START"
  • Main Menu Screen
    • "Start Game"
    • "Load Game"
    • "Options"
    • "Credits"
  • Options Screen
    • "Music" [On/Off]
    • "Sound" [On/Off]
    • "Difficulty" [Easy/Medium/Hard]
    • "Input Device" [Keyboard/USB Gamepad]
    • Configure Controls
  • Configuration Screen
    • Fields for different game action controls
  • Pause Screen
    • "Continue"
    • "Save Game" (Unless we use Checkpoint saves in the game)
    • "End Game"
  • End Game Screen
    • "No"
    • "Yes"
  • Credits Screen
    • Scrolling screen that lists all credits
  • Game Over Screen
    • Displays when the game is over :P
