Me and my team are ressurecting an old idea we had a while back, an mmo*winces*rpg, based in a sorta sci-fi egyptian world.

Heres a screenshot, containing basically all of the graphics I've done for it so far (I've only been working on it about 5 days).

Lemme know what you all think

------------------------------------------------------------ ---------------------------------

In this one you can see the player in the bottom left-hand corner. The pyramid is actually a hologram, it shimmers every so often during gameplay, and is powered by the two obelisk-type things. This area isn't finished yet, and I still need to start on the HUDs.

Well, I don't wuit know how this game will work, seems a good idea, and the work so far looks very impressive. You've got the choice of colours spot on.

I dont really like the color choice - looks like egypt on a rainy day :P  Try making it just a *tad* more saturated, just for comparison

@Monkey 'o Doom

Woah Woah - Pillow Shading????? It's not, trust me - i'm just trying to get out of the habit of dithering everything...
------------------------------------------------------------ --------------------------------
@leel

I can see where your coming from, but the game is meant to have a dark-apocalyptic type theme, when I first saw your post I thought it was a compliment(the rainy day part).. until I saw the word 'don't' in front of like.... lol.  But basicly it's meant to look like that, although I will make a higher saturated version for comparison.

Thanks for the C&C
------------------------------------------------------------ -------------------------------- -
@skull

Cheers for the kind words
------------------------------------------------------------ -------------------------------- -
Edit,

@shark

Soz didn't see your post, I pretty much explained the saturation thing, but if you could give me advice on better shading I'd be grateful

Also, could someone please explain what pillow shading is exactly? Up until now I thought that it was when you go aruond the outlines with a darker colour, getting progressively lighter, making it look nasty.

Shark, see your avatar? I was trying to shade in that style, where did mine go wrong?

well if thats the theme of the game, then i does look grim.  But the colors just seem boring.  I mean, check this out http://www.pixeljoint.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=2124& ;PN=1&TPN=3 (scroll down to the mockup)

The colors are dark and 'post apocalyptic' but they're fun to look at, your egypt is kinda bland... add more contrast, perhaps, if you wanna stick with the desaturated colors, because i couldnt even see that the bricks were shaded until i clicked on it 3 times.

Ok thanks, Ill try that as well

------------------------------------------------------------ ---------------------------------

EDIT::

Okay, I added more contrast and even upped the saturation a bit, watcha think?

I just added more contrast to this one:

I still think the original one looked best though....

As for high saturation, this aint pokemon! I truly think that that colour of white used in the edit by shark has no place in the thesis we call sanity. Ill experiment with the dark red colour of ur entrails on my spoon as I rip out your heart with it. The buildings are about as boring as ur personality if u dont like this. And no one has commented on the character. Is it because hes egyptian and you find the historically acurate rendition of an egyptian slave offending? Apart from that i agree with all f the comments made so far

WTF.

I would have said: 'Perhaps try a more reddish hue' but hey, whatever floats your boat.

I think it's a good start but the 2D angle really throws me off. I'd pick a more dynamic angle.

I'd give him points for being creative about it...

but yeah, in general, it seems very flat, when I seen it in the gallery I expected it as a backdrop or something for a 2D scroller. the added contrast gives it some pop, but it's still way out of perspective, you seem to be doing sprites front-on instead of at the angle you want them displayed at.

heh, cool, I saw that the other week, the perspective is the same as I'm gonna use for my buildings, although its proving tricky to use on the pyramid...

The skull is looking good, I like the total feel of it.
THe one thing about the skull is it looks flipped.
Both sides of the skull shouldn't be the EXACT same.

Maybe add some random details on the skull to give it the feel it's not flipped.
Maybes some scratches or bumps.

Oh, and the skull looks fat compaired to it's hieght.

Now that - that is cool. I really like it. As long as the colours are kept the same throughout- that'll be great. The background behind the Skull is just superb.

Thanks Bifur, I had a quick go at the pyramid from the angle that you suggested, it went wrong but I can see where I made the mistakes, and I'll fix it. :D

Im going away for a while tomorrow, and right now I'm really just trying to get as many sprites done as possible so as the game can be programmed whilst I'm away... I guess the pyramid will just have to wait until I get back...

Because the front of the pyramid is closer to the viewer the back shouldnt be larger, but the lines should bend inwards slightly, like on Bifur's edit.
