So it hasn't hit the pixel stage yet, but I wanted to get some feedback before I shrink it down and start pixeling.

I'm a little iffy on the hand holding the wrench, so if someone wants to do a redline that'd be awesome. The hang of the fabric with the pocket seems a little awkward, too.

Anyway, critique away. I want to start pixeling this baby soon.

Her hat doesn't quite look to be on her head properly.
The hand looks a bit too masculine for a girl.

I don't particularly like the usual/overdone big boobed girl art. I think this is needed here tho. Why would a girl mechanic be showing her lacy bra if no sexual connection is the point? Therefore, go BPB*

I reworked the hand and I'm much happier with it. I also tweaked the hat a wee bit.
Any better?

DAMN ANLINA. If only I could draw like you do. The hand looks even more awesome now.

I think the awkwardness of the pocket arm/hand is due to the fact that her midsection seems a little short... but that just might be my retardness talking. The way the arm is angled would not allow her hand to enter the pocket anyway, so her arm just needs to be poking out towards the right at less sharp angle, getting closer to being completely vertical (but definitely NOT completely vertical, NO NO NO.)

Heh. I've been debating whether that hand is supposed to be in a fist on the back of her hip or in a pocket or what... I kind of roughed it in without too much thought to where it was going to go. I may just end up cropping that area anyway, since I think she's going to be popping out of a circular frame.

I haven't really decided what style to go with when I colour. Any suggestions?

This looks ...awesome. Can't wait to see the coloured version.

And stylewise, i think you'd do best with quite soft shading (kinda realistic) to cell shading cus there's quite alot of subtle shapes involved here.

Neway, good luck!

Aww, I read the BPB comment, I just didn't know what to say in response. XD She's definetely supposed to have a pinup kind of feel to her.

WTF, have you seen your own art? XD You definetely hold your own in the drawing arena - I don't think you need to be envious of me.

Anyway, since the lines seem to be in order, I'll try to start working on  the colours over the weekend.

So I just started modeling on her face, and part of me likes it, part of me hates it. I'm fairly happy with the nose so far, not so thrilled with the mouth area, I think maybe the creases around her mouth that give shape to her cheeks are too defined, making her face too... something.

I dunno.

The palette also sucks, but that I can fix later.

Aaaah she looks chavvy! Noooo. Paler skin, light brown hair ftw.

I agree the creases in the face make her look older, and i'm not liking the more defined nose. It is well done though! I just think her subtlety was lost when you coloured it, possibly because of the realistic shading style .

Well, she's someone's character, so I can't really change her hair colour, but I did scrap the shading I had and I started over and I'm much happier with this new version. Just skin shading so far, but I think I'm on the right track:

The breasts are looking good. :]
Her skin seems a little orange, dunno why just does.

The hat still rests weird on her head, looks like it was just pasted there.
The hand is looking much better. :B

BTW where's her belly button?

Can't wait to see it done.

Changed the skin palette a bit so that it's less red and more blue. Dunno if it makes a difference... both look fine on my home monitor, but I see the orange cast on other monitors I use.

Her navel is just at the bottom of the V of her outfit, so it's not overly visible. I've hinted at it in this updated version.

I'm still not sure about the hat issues - it looks fine to me. It's supposed to be sort of perched on her head, with her hair pulledthrough the adjustable loop on the back. Could you do a redline or something Souly? I'm just not seeing it.

No black lace here. I think white is more suitable considering the rest of her outfit.

I do all my pixel art in Photoshop - I just pixel over my sketch.

maybe the hair could be a bit longer.. that gives her a more female style. but if that shouldn`t be.. let it how it is.

u give her a sexy style but its not too provovative.

do u want to shade the clothes? i would do that.

a good work!

the progress is great, but her expression doesn't seem to fit her character.  A more lusty expression would suit this better.

Aha! Thanks for the edit souly. I really had no idea what you were trying to describe, but that change makes a lot of sense.

Scruffs: She's supposed to look sexy, but in a fresh, carefree sort of way, not a calculated, bedroom-eyes kind of way.

Mirre: Thanks

So, hair's done and I'm pretty pleased with it. Now I'm onto the clothing. I've roughed in general shapes but not spent any time refining them, because see that spot with the question mark? I have no idea how to shade that section. I don't remember what I was thinking when I did the line art, but nothing I try is working for me in that area. Any suggestions, reference photos anything to help me with that bit? I'm really stuck.

I think brown eyes might look nice. I love this work it's really well done. The attention to detail is great and the outlines are so smooth and stylish.

Thanks :) Alas, this is someone else's character, and I don't want to take too much artistic license with the few distinguising features that were described.

Mia:

Mia is very short at 5 foot even and is a little curvy/busty.   She has obcenely long black hair and very vibrant blue eyes.  there are 5 hoop earings going down her left ear.    Her style is sort of "alterna-girl" ish or sorta tomboyish.   She's a mechanic as well as an auto racer, if you need an idea of her personality.

I am VERY lenient on artist interpretation!   It's not art unless the artist has their own personal touch.

Thought I'd have a go at explaining the way I see the lineart making sense in a spatial way.

Seems like we might be viewing the cloth edge-on (the edge where the buttons or button holes/zipper would be) as it's almost parallel (edit: not paralell! perpendicular. ugh.) to the viewer. Since the light source is coming in from above and from her left, I think you'd see some shadowing over the belly, breast, and the worksuit.
I did a really sloppy edit with maybe too much shadow, but hopefully it better explains what I'm seeing:

The red line coming down the suit lapel at A, is the plane of the cloth I THINK is coming towards the viewer edge-on. I didn't quite draw the light source at the proper angle, since it would be coming from much farther above. You can pull the change off better, I think, if you wanted/saw it that way.
Anyway, the changes in the face are perfect and recaptured what you had in the great lineart. Hair is extremely well done.

Thanks Yar, I think you're definetely on the right track there. I have a much better idea of how to shade that area, though it's still giving me some trouble.

So, I've continued to avoid shading the coverall by working on the rest :'D I'm really pleased with the way the wheel thing on the wrench came out.
