I'm doing my very first house from the ground up...  Try and get myself out of this pixel "rut" I'm in.  Lately I can't do anything right, so I decided to do something very complicated and detailed.

I had posted a copy here and on DA, but I decided to take the one here down because I noticed I kinda messed it up...  The animation I had was totally bypassing building steps and I didn't add some of the original deatils I was going to do.  So I went back to the drawing board, luckjily since it was animated I could just delete some frames and go back...  Here is where I am:

The foundation

My hardwood floor...  God I miss having hardwood...

The basic framing...

Roof trusses...

This is where I am right now, wiring the whole thing up...

Not much into it right now.  I have a good idea on how the house was built, I had to watch it everyday as it was being built since I had to pass it to go to work, so I am trying to remember how they had everything.  I'm going to finish the wiring and then try to add basic plumbing then try to get some visible nails...

Whats the point of doing all this extra pixelling if the outside house is going to cover all this?

Unless you're going to make it into one giant crazy animation once it's done?

An animation of course...  The idea started when I got an email from someone looking at my pixel art on my site asking:

"hey dooshbag, howd yu make dem pixel houz?  tell me!!!!!!!!!"

So I started doing this and I was going to send him the final animation, but instead I just ignored him and I decided to make something good out of it...  =)

Oh,

Wiring is done.  =P

lol, looking very good.   Would look cool if the insulation was more fluffy/cotton-like instead of flat like a board, and on certain sides of insulation there are usually cardboard paper stuck to it so you can avoid touching the itchyness of it. :D

Crap!!!  Plumbing!  I told you I need to go to bed...

Demon: the insulation that was used on that house was foam board, it was pink, but it was compacted down to 1/2" sheets and laminated on both sides...  Made repairing a wall I busted out during my wild days much more tolerable.

Awesome project. They make me put the studs 16 inches apart, though. dont do it in yours, it would look far too cluttered.

And its a good thing it's not "cotton candy" insulation. Poor pixelblink may get a little confused and use it to clean up after his outdoor poo. The funny part is, people I know have actually done that.

As far as I remember, the floor is put in after the walls are up. Otherwise you muck up the flooring while you put up the walls.

So much for sleep...  I'm obsessed...

Added plumbing so pixelblink can "poo"

Then had to go back and redo all of the other pieces...

Then I did some dry walling...

No lines from the tape, I should have been a plasterer.

Now it needed some siding...  So WHAM!:

Attic floor and trap door...

Siding for the trusses:

And lastly for tonight, the roof...

Will add more detail to the roof tommorow after I sleep off this all nighter.

The studs were faaaaar from being set to code...  Hell, the reason it burned down is because of using 220 with 110 breakers...

But you are right about the floor, I will have to take those out when I get ready to animate...

Ok, only got 4 hours of sleep...  So I did some altering.

If you look at the older pieces, I added logos to the insulation, as suggested on another forum.  I also split the top siding into 2 pieces like I think it was on my old house.

Then I added the doors and windows.  Since I want this to be true pixel art, I actually had to do the view of looking into the windows by hand, no opacity, like I usually do...  SO that added on some 1 1/2 hours trying to find the right colors...

Then the trim...

For the most part, I have completed it.  I am going to go back now and tile the roof, or atleast try.  I have never been able to do that very well.  So if anyone has any suggestions, PLEASE pass them this way.

what about curtains, a flowerpot and doormat outside the door, a mailbox, a hose coiled up on the side of the house, flower beds, and maybe some leaves in the eavestroughs?

Haven't done the landscaping yet.  But at my old house I didn't have any flower beds or a mail box...

I forgot to tell you all this is based off of my very first house I had...

I think it isdone enough to put to animation now...

It is not done yet, but I just wanted to see how it would turn out where I was.  And I think it looks alot better then my first version I had.  I fixed the floor being in to early.  I am already about 18 hours into this, and I don't think I will be done for atleast 5 more.  I need to add so many little tiny details...  And I am still trying to decide wether or not to do the outside or not...  That animation is less than 23kb so far, so that is a good thing.

But anyway, there it is animated.

That's awesome. I'm sure that would look great on a construction company's website or something like that. *puts on cheesy business man's voice* "We build your house from the ground up".

Awesome house.

I think that the grass could be longer in places, especially those hard to mow areas around the edges of the house.

And I'd love to see some shadows from the house on the grass
and maybe a few cobble-stones out of place, or some grass within them

I think you will have to decide whether to go for a "perfect" exterior with pristine grass, perfectly placed cobblestones, and a brand new coat of paint OR a REAL exterior with patchy grass, kicked cobbles, and perhaps a few scratches or peeling.

which will it be? I'm full of ideas for both!

I think the grass should be there from the begginning.. or is it like, fake grass that you can just lay anywhere? Or do you grow it? :P

You do lay grass. Haha. Have you ever seen a house being built? I live in a neighborhood that there still building, so I see it all the time. The have a dirt ground, pour the foundation, build the house, then lay the grass.

Yeah, like Garage said.  I am making this as a fresh construction, so the sod is layed after the house and cobblestone walkway is done, and since it is sod, it looks perfect for the first few weeks.

Shadows are a great idea, that will take forever, but give it that extra realism. Need to add the faucet to the outside, too...  I did't build the fence until 6 months after I moved in, but I may still add it.  I just want to keep the file size below 50kb...

One last idea, what do you all think about once it is all finished, I have a for sale sign fall from the sky and land in front?

it would be more work, but I think it would look even cooler if you made the 2X4s go in individually. Kinda even more step by step, like you did with the trusses.

HAHA! yes! do the sign!

The layer that's added on to the foundation is one solid peice of wood. Add some lines to break it up into boards of realistic dimension. Same with the layer between the walls and the roof trusses.

Texture on the roof would be fun.

That's all I've got. Well friggin' done thus far, man!

More of an update.  =)  You can't see it, but I am peeping through the peep hole.

I thought about doing the boards 1 by one, but that made the final animation 250+kb, WAY over my limit.  =)

Edit: It's not animated, just showing you the final frame

True. It's an additional detail but in this case is hardly noticeable or relevant. I'd work more on textures. :)

Oh, and how come the wood frames don't cast shadow on the floor inside the house?

I know it was pointless, but oh well.

There is no shadow on the floor because I was getting to frustrated when the trusses were being placed, I couldn't get the shadow to look right...  I'm working on that though...
