Yeah, the teeth are a bit faded, but I don't think you should go too dark on em.  When are you going to go in on the scythe?

Ah, I was making a C+C post in the other topic but just as I tried posting it, the topic was deleted and I lost it! Well..

I think you should make the shadow at the top of his skull ultra dark, much darker than the side of his face. The side of his face should be recieving light from the surrounding area, whereas at the top of his skull, light would only be reflecting off the black hood, and thus the area should be quite dark.

As you can see in the original logo, the top is technically darker than the side.

Also, the blue lines in the clothes are meant to just be line-art in the original, but in yours, it looks like there are blue light source in front of him. I reckon you should make the blue lines look more like line-art by lightening them and making them thinner. Either that or you could shade in parts of his skull with blue and go along with the blue light idea.

Sedge : I'll try darkening them a bit, and I'm gonna do the scythe next, and get it over with.

Lawrence : In mine they're actually supposed to be sort of, blue stripes on his clothes :P im not going totally with the original reaper, as you've noticed from the fact theres no blue lines being used on the hood. Also there are darkened lines between each part of his body, not just the blue lines. It just doesnt look good on something properly shaded, but does on a flat colour like in the logo.

Ill probably fix up the shading on the skull, but im thinking of redoing the hood and skull completely. I hate the hood >.>

This piece has been going for ages.. but I want to get this right, I've already spent alot of time on it, and i'd rather get everything good, then have a half good/half crap piece. I basically made this just to improve, and I have alot, even though i'm not perfect now :P Below is the first reaper image I posted, and to the left of it, the newest one, and i think theres quite a significant difference :P (you'll notice the left one is also different from the one originally posted here cause i've made a few edits, some small, some big)

i guess i'll repost this then:

allso i'd like to say that the teeth indeed need some more separation, maily form eacother. you should use a pretty dark color between the upper and lower teeth, and a lightish colour in between the individuals

oh, compliments on hte eye'i see you used the colours better now =) now do the same to where the hoodie meets the skull

I think im gonna redo the hood and skull anyways  Or maybe just edit them a bit, i dunno.. im just not happy with them. And i'll do what you've asked when they're redone/edited, i know i'm taking ages with this, but its mainly to help me improve as said before, and if i just finish it quickly, and don't bother making it look better, I won't get better will I?  Also.. i don't think the skull and hood are anywhere near as good as the clothes (besides the hood of course lol), so it looks a bit odd :P Thanks everyone for the great C&C, keep it comin, doesn't matter if I can't keep up with it.

Ok, I'm not good enough to crit a piece like this properly (means you're way ahead of me), but there's just one thing I'd like to say. With your last update I think you ruined the teeth a bit, I believe you made the gap between the upper and lower teeth too big.

Number 3 IMO, cause the shading is the smoothest and creates the most volume.
Also, it being smooth, this fabric *has* to be smooth so this shading also fits the material the best.

Another choice :D Ok, 8 this time, the top 4 are the same as the 4 i posted before, but the hoods been fixed a bit, and the bottom 4 have edits on the skull... (blue background so you can see it easier since its so dark)

As for the top four I'd say.. uhm.. none, 'cause I think the outline of the hood should be a bit brighter where the highlight hits the hood.. I mean to the left of the small pointy thing. The fourth one is the closest to a great hood, because it has a tiny folding for the pointy thing.

I can't see no particular change of the four bottoms ones so I better be quiet about that

(excuse my wierd language but I haven't been to school for a few months so I can't write properly in my own language, and absolutely not in english..)

The line seperating the skull and hood is ALOT smoother in the 4 bottom ones, then in the top 4

The skull is still shaded terribly. It has no depth to it since the start, and all you did so far was add more colors to it.

What did you do with all the crits you got last time?

is it sposed to look 3d then? in that case start by  adding LOTS more contrast, you dont have to use as much colours though.. youre not gonna get it real smooth anyways, the most important is to get the feel fos shading

i think thats why most people dont shade: therye afraid to make mistakes. dont be, they make you learn more then 100 people telling you to add contrast =D

1ucas - I edited the reaper last time for every crit that was made, EXCEPT the one on the skull cause i wanted someone to ellaborate a bit more on it. Maybe you could? It doesn't help to say 'it has no depth' and not tell me how to add depth. thats just not proper criticism.

snader - Im guessing you mean add contrast to the skull right? Referring to 1ucas' post? I'll try that, and thanks.

EDIT - Latest edit... gonna start on the scythe now, which i've already attempted a couple of times, and not done very well with >.> Problems not the wood, its the metal, I cant get it too look right...

This is a very good crit about what to do with the skull. As it is now you've shaded the sides exactly like you did on the top which results in a very flat look. If you were to change the shading on the sides (remove a few colors here and there, make some fields thinner) but to keep the top exactly like it is, I think you would see a positive difference.

Ok, ill fix that up.. in mine the lightsource is moe from the top left, not the top, so im not gonna thin out the left side as much as the right.

way too much pillow shading, you could have gone for the same effect probly with less colors and some dithering

Com'on, you asked for criticism, and even if you don't get what they mean, don't get an attitude about it, that last post could have been better improved by simply asking "Which areas are to pillowed, and should I redo them?"  It seems to me, and I may be wrong, that you are asking for the criticism, but then you are taking it as an insult towards you...  I know I may be wrong, but my main poiunt is let's be civil, I have been a member of to many forums that are now gone because people couldn't just get along.  Remember, you can't get a tone of how the person is talking when they actually are typing.

*Shrug* I just don't like people that give basically useless criticism. Sorry...
Its like posting on something with 15 colours and saying '1 of the colours doesn't suite it' without saying which, or which colour you think would be better for it.

Well... I dont know about you guys, but I'm getting pretty sick of seeing this same thread popping up everywhere. Xero, you've gotten crits, you've barely used them, and this thread will keep going on and eventually turn into a flamewar because you wont cooperate. I'm sick of seeing this image, and I'm sick of seeing reapers for that matter. So just let it go and move on before the thread gets moved to the mods forum again.
