~ for the main character of my game project. it doesn't feel okay, most probably 'cause of the legwork. could some1 help me get it right?

(EDIT: I get the impression that instead of giving more delay to frames 2 & 4 I'd need an additional frame with the legs interpolated between frames 1 & 2 and 3 & 4... could it be the case?)

I think so. but before you start anything, yoy could try to shade your character. if you see, he never touches the ground when he is supposed to do.

if the number of frames it's not a problem, you could even add 2 more frames for a total of 8.

thanks for the comment , Metaru!

as I'm lazy and not very talented, I'd prefer to bring the most out of the least frames. in the updated version (it's the third draft now), I've added some bobbing & distributed the body parts' movement between frames more evenly, so that I don't need to change the frame delays. (although I've removed the colors until the animation itself isn't finalized.)

shading is a cool idea (you mean the shadow it casts, right?), I'll definitely try that in a form or another (by which I mean the shadow might not be part of the image rather than a separate ellipse the game engine scales in correlation with the character's distance from the ground, and blits below the character).

move the character up and down a bit and front to back

like. when he jumps off and he's airborne make him more topright and when he lands more towards the back

Ow dear. Watch out!

LAZY does not go well with ANIMATION.

In fact I would strongly advice anyone messing with
animation to have lots of patience and work really hard.

It does not take talent to make something worthwhile.
However, it does take more time if you are not talented.

But as long as you enjoy the process it would not harm you.
In fact it will be easier next time. Even if you still don't have the
talent. Because talent is a gift, it cannot be earned.
Too bad that so many people with talents don't want to use them!

And everything is relative. You have more talent than some of
the people I know.
Some of the frames have a really good head movement. Where
you simulate a little turn in the head. Good Job!

Can you please show us the walk movement without the
still-stand frame in between? It is better to judge the movement
when it is flowing.
The standing still frame has more proportional problems than the
other frames. Try to keep the legs the same width all the way
through. When the figure is walking towards you or away from
you there can be a little bit difference in them, but sideway walk
should be more the same.

I hope you can find some anti-laziness and keep working on
the animation. You have made good progress, it takes only
a couple of more weeks  of work.

Best regards from

M.E.
