I realized something today...I suck at shading people. The reason I was trying to see is because I have already started the lineart on a large scale pixel piece and I need to work on shading people.

I started with this face. (Trans and Non Trans)(I made teh background because I had nothing else to do.)

I will be posting more piece in this thread for more practice with shading.

For c+c, rip it to shreds, I will take all the help I can get.

This exercise will be beneficial and interesting for all of us.
I think the shading is ok, but this being exercise, use as much ref as possible.

I'm really terrible at shading skin myself, which is why I mostly stick with architecture, but I might be helpful anyway.

Not really sure, but is feels like your highlight is a bit too bright. And I believe cheeks are to be highlighted on top of the cheeks, in contrast to below as you've done.

The nose feels a bit forgotten. Perhaps adding a bit more highlight on the tip of it and more shadows around it would improve it.

I hope this helped more than it destroyed

Always remember that you are unique. Just like everybody else.

I am as well not gifted with skin skills. But I've noticed, color really does have a huge impact on the skin. If you shade with a poor pallate, this can mess things up greatly too. I'd suggest visiting Bisque's site for pallates for skin and using those for a bit and seeing where that takes you.

Thanks, I will work on it some more tomorrow, no time tonight. As for the pallate, I forgot to mention, I did use one of Bisque's pallates.

Really? Well maybe you used too many colors that were too alike. Try skipping a bunch of colors on the pallate, use more contrasty ones. That might help.
