    Posted: 30 May 2005 at 12:00pm
I had an idea, although not a very creative one, to make a puzzle wall collaboration project. Each person may make as many tiles as he/she wants and we put them all together. Here is the template I had in mind:

I already made 2 tiles and put them together to show how it would work.

Here is the up-to-date puzzle.

It's simple, but it looks kind of fun. I might throw one up.

Can you put it up in PNG instead of GIF?  I can't seem to edit it right in GIF format.

Sorry guys, I don't have the necessary means to keep them animated. If anyone else does, and would like to insert them into the wall, then you're welcome to.

Supadude... please stop posting these inane messages with files linked to your local computer... you have to upload files to a website or we can't see them.  I've warned you time and again through personal messaging and I'm getting tired of it.  If you are under 13 years old (which I suspect you are) or just cannot understand the concept of common forum etiquette please discontinue posting here.  Last warning.

It could also be the angst of second language. But I suspect you're right. Although, in either case, the words "etiquette" and "inane" may not have been the wisest selection.

(Man, I sound waaaay to formal for my own good)

On topic, I think that it should be either a rule or against the rules to shade the puzzle peice itself. As it stands you're gonna end up with a whole lot of flat peices mixed up with a bunch of 3d looking peices.

I'm glad this conversation was started in this collab, as opposed to a good collab that wasn't stupid.  Seriously, this wasn't a very good collab idea to start. At least it served some purpose, though.

I dunno, the way I saw it is that if you were to eventually get a lot of entries, it could be a pretty interesting piece to look at.

I agree with Saboteur, there shouldn't be a mix between 3Dish pieces and flat pieces. It should be one or the other.

true that, allso, i think people should be less well.. selfcentered

ive seen in collabs in pixelation that were ''everyone makes his own piece'' and those were.. plain

but when people actually started to bond different tiles together (like making a picture on 6 different puzzle pieces) things looked a lot more natural and interesting

i think thats another thing which shouldnt be forgotten, its a collaboration, not a solo

Personally, I think it'd be cool to make a giant picture out of the puzzle pieces rather than have solo picture pieces that don't go together. Kind of like the old mosaics from deviantart before they took it away

I went ahead and added the "glares" or whatever they're called. I'm going to assume that Smite_O_Rama would choose for them all to have a 3D look, since that's what his examples looked like.
If you have photoshop, I loaded a Photoshop file that has the glare included on a separate layer. It's just white and gray lines set at 50% opacity.. looks fine to me.

If you're not cool with it all then I apologize and will remove these things. I realize I didn't get permission to go ahead and do this.

I also think you should have the big puzzle in your first post, so people can see the updates immediately.

Yeah, I prefer the 3-d look. I'll go ahead and update the first post to include the most recent submissions.

What I did on mine was take the base color that the highlight would go on and lighten it by 50. If you zoom in the pieces, you can tell where to put the highlights to make it look 3-d.
