Well I started this on monday but I find it really hard to texture the tree leaves correctly.. I am sure someone here can teach me or tell me some tips on how to sprite a tree :P

I would let the leaves define the outline of the tree rather than straight lines. And I would also try to make the ground pattern seamless.  I like the turtle

I agree with AtomicMushroom, make the outlines of the tree follow with the leafs so it's more defined. The shading looks good, like leafs.
 
Also, I find that I really like the shading on the tree trunk but maybe you could make it look more random, it looks as though the tree is square.
 
Love the lil turtle XD (one lil tip for him, on the top part of his head, maybe bring it up a pixel, round it out just a tad)

This is so silly... I don't even know if you wanted crits on it but the heart was bothering me...
 
 
I'm not sure if you wanted a rounded out look but I think the lines might look a bit better more like this. (it looks much smoother colored red)

Contrast may help you bring the leaves out and define them better. Darken the shade of green on the opposite side of the light source ;] Also I'd suggest for a top down view make your light source come straight from the top left rather than more to the left like you have :P
