I'm making a robot avatar.  I cant decide on a color scheme, but I'm thinking of a steel and brass look.  I'm also not sure how to shade it accurately so it looks 3D.  Any ideas?

Ideas?  Ok.

1. Pick a light source
2. look at the different shapes in the piece:  a sphere for the "palm" of the hand, a cylinder for the arm and head,  and a quarter sphere for the jaw.  The fingers are a bit more complex, but once you get going with the other shapes you'll better understand how the light hits it.
3. Google references for shading each of these figures.  Or look at the many pixel art tutorials which use these basic shapes.
4. START shading them according to your light source.

We can't help you with anything unless you do something.  Once you start experimenting with the shading, we can help nudge you in the right direction, but right now it's all up to you :)
