Ok well we all must know Bardy by now. (If you don't, then don't ask about the name)
Well Indigo desided to make one of his own Bardies and then slapped both of them on a game mockup. And we desided that a game might be hatched from all of this.

I think you can guess which one is Indigo's .

We are planning to make a game out of this but it's all the thoughts still because we aren't sure if this will get a lot of interest.

Here are some beta animations for bardies that people can use as a template and create their own Bardies to be used in the game. (First one is the main template: non-animated)

alright - i finally got my login to work here.   Thanks for the comments everybody.  Here is the full idea that we were thinking of ...

Potato Combat

(small update on the pic)

purpose:
Some may remember Sal's animation challenges back in the days of pixelation.  This would be quite similar to that except for one major difference; your work actually gets applied into something.

the animation learning expirience:
Each person would take their static frame potato, color it, and then animate it according to specifications I would give.  For example, i may say you are allowed 4 frames for an eat attack, 8 frames run, 4 frames jump, etc.  All of the animation would be left for you to decide (minus a few rules which may come up).  For those who are newbish at animation may use a very simple animation template that we would draw up for you, but coloring is still left to that person.  The finished animation would be submitted as a sprite sheet with each frame contained within a 60 by 60 block (no larger).  this would help us all in producing nice fluid animations within restrictions (as you would get from any game development company if you were employed).

the game:
with your finished sprite sheet you would also sumbitt a .txt file including your name (aka or real), and a point sheet.  the template sheet would be somthing like this:

speed-
strength-
jumping-
response-
blocking-
(note that this is not the actual list)

you would be given a certain amount of points that you would then have to distribute among those certain areas.  After that, I would apply them into the game - you'd grab a buddy - and you could beat up your favorite pixel joint pixel potatoes.  (note: the game would be a simple, multiplayer, non-online game.  the main purpose is for an animation learning expirience, not a very big block-buster game hit)

I would be the one programming it (me and my dev team) - just because i am a perfectionist when it comes to how graphics look and interact with each other in-game.  I'm sure some of you could do just as good of a job as me, but i'd feel safer doing it.  if you want to see a game my team has created recently - the link is below.  it was for this past 72 hour compo.

http://pixeljoint.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=628&PN =2

conclusion:
all of this is just in the idea stages - meaning voice now if you think it is a good idea.  I thought i'd throw out all this information to see if it'll get good response or not.  any ideas you might have - you might want to make them known now.

Its really funny how this all began though.  Lief was goin crazy on NG for a crappy sprite design - and then i thought about it and decided that its really not a a bad idea.  It just needs to be put in the right setting.  So this is to prove that almost any idea is a good idea if it is accompanied by a little follow-through

whatcha think?

I think that the orange highlights are either too strong or not blended well enough. :/
Everything else looks good except for the timer which looks a little plain.

It's only a mockup. A lot of things will change if we actually do make the game

I love the idea. I'm going to make one.
For every second spent wondering if you can do something, you could spend 2 seconds doing it.

Thank you Garage Inc. Very much appreciated. Indigo suggested that people wouldn't have to use the little animated templates but to make your own attacks and, falls etc. But just make the base right now because we still have to come up with frame limitations and all those details.

Dang it. I think it happened the second time on these forums... for some reason my fingers type "mochup" automatically. I think I need to 'munch' on something to get rid of that.  Haha! Get it  Huh huh? Get it?

Thanks for the offer Demon but I'm not sure because it will be a fairly simple game. It's up to Indigo to decide if he would want help on it.

Now this looks like an interesting game. If there'd be one, I'd download it for sure. About the biting anim though: it lacks a bit of action. Made an edit for you so you can see what I mean.
-->
It's not the best edit, I know, but doesn't his bite look more dangerous now?

Thanks Brian.  As I said this whole things is still floating around as ideas. But your edit is wonderful. I didn't spend much time on them because they are betas and probably won't be used as Indigo has decided that it would be better if you guys work on your own animations going accordingly from the Bardy base.

@dr.feng: thanks for the percentage  I think my Bardy coloring makes the 50% but I'm working on it.

Yay! Thanks for the sum up of the ideas Indigo :) YOu got some nice things going on. And I like that Point sheet of redistributing point of skill to each potato.

I didn't get a chance to comment on your update because you logged off. But I  really love how it's comming. I'm just not sure if you would want to use the background of an already existing game. I mean if I were you I wouldn't use the same graphics from another game I made (if you know what I mean).

Hey that looks sweet Pixel Pusher. I think the skin issue is because of the shading, and as I look at it there is barely any. lol. The skin tone is nice, good choice but just add shading and highlights. Loving the brains!

thanks for the correction there, pixel blink - and thanks for the incouragement

HAHA! nice concept, pixel pusher!  i like the metalic band and everything.

before people get too much into this - i think i should really get a working demo up and running.  But i'm glad this is getting positive feedback

edit:
"I'm just not sure if you would want to use the background of an already existing game"
your right about that - i'm just being really lazy right now.  the real game will have its own original graphics. .....  man you reply fast to this thread, NG

Yeah, I didn't bother to do anything with the skin(that shading was just me messing around). I tried highlights and the like but it didn't work.

i like the idea, but i have some questions, like is it okay to give it a special hairstyle and stuff like that, cuz i dont know how it will be done with bounding boxes, and if its allowed stylewise etc.

allso, you could try to do this with a more normal approach, like the fighter-challenge on P. academy

Yes! Of course you can. You can modify the main base anyway you want, just keep it in the size that Indigo has clarified in his sum-up and keep it resonable looking like a potato

And I'm not sure I remember a fighter challenge on Pixel Academy, can you explain that please.

Oh, well as Indigo said this is a learning experience for more of the starting out kind of pixel artists so we certainly don't want to go that far. It's just going to be a small game with potatoes fighting each other.
