Shaklorathe is the name of one of my creatures that has two arms, no legs, and a gaping mouth on his body.

I've started shading on this piece, by just defining where the light is (the top-ish left), and determining the basic colors.

I really want to practice some anatomy (arm anatomy) with this.

I also want to practice how to use a darker pallete and create a piece with at least a little bit of feeling.

The background is dark blue right now, but I'll change it later. I can't stand white when working with dark pieces.
Crits and comments greatly appreciated.

You know that blue background hurts my eyes... change it for something else, or take it off at all!
As for the piece it looks fine by now, the anatomy seems good, even more because its a gost or something so you always can say "it was suposed to be tha way!"
I like the concept by the way, would like to try making a sprite from it.

PS: a little more shadin on head would be good, and maybe it needs an aditional darker color, but thats just me... also try adding some depth on the mouth, like now it looks too black...

Sorry about the blue background...
I am going to add more shading and play around with the background, but I am not sure how to add depth to the mouth. Is anybody able to help me with that?

I've added some more shadowing, attempted a little anti-aliasing (in the shadows), as well as added a little highlight.

I got rid of the blue background, and I hope this isn't as eye straining...

Crits and Comments appreciated, as usual.

And sorry for the double post, but nobody was replying, so I based my edit around what Sabata said.

I would increase the contrast of the fangs.  At the moment, they're a rather flat grey.

@KiraCatgirl:
Thanks for the advice. I have another edit now, and I upped the contrast on the fangs.

And, here's the new edit.
As usual, crits and comments are appreciated, since I do not feel this is finished yet.

Anybody?

Do people have any comments and crits for this? Because I still don't think this is finished, but noone's commenting...

EDIT: Should I have a background on this? Or make it transparent?

Well if you want to make a background for him, you can make him around some dark mountains or a graveyard. Then you could make him fade into the background. (If he's supposed to be an awesome dark, missty, demonic spirit thing... witch he is...?)

Also, consider changing the light source from... nothing, to his glowing red eyes. (In witch case, you would have to tint the highlight redish of coarse...)

@Skull Master: I'm still deciding whether or not to make a background for him, but I don't think that the lightsource should be his eyes, as won't the image look pillowshaded then?

Here's the latest edit, where I just tweaked the shading a little. Is there any more advice for me?
