Yet another Lovecraft sprite underway.... I'm trying a more organic approach with my tablet this time...

EDIT:

The mouth was kinda tricky.... I hope this looks ok. Bunch of base color and highlighting left to do.

Looking good. One this that would add some zing to it would be broken shackles on each hand. Like he broke away from some jail haha. you dont have to but i think it would give it ZING

Looks very regular and planar. Starfish like.
If it's meant to be the Lurker at the Threshold form then irregularity and volume are important.
I'd suggest using the luminous globes to light the tentacles as the strong directional lightsource suggests something larger out side of it.

This is a good point... It is a bit starfish and ordered-looking for the Lurker. I suppose it will become a random beastie in my files, and I'll try a different Yog Sothoth, but I do like this anyway...

Comments?

I don't know if this is the sort of thing that would have ever been capture to put handcuffs on it! Anyhow, upped the contrast a bit, which I think makes it better looking.

EDIT:

Someone alerted me to the fact that this could use some texture.... so I'm working this out a bit more:

I love this update with the texture. I really think it elevates the art.

I added this to the gallery a few days ago. I was unaware it was still a WIP : /

Sorry J, I just couldn't deal with it like it was.... had to work on it some more. I figure if I was going to, I might as well post it here.

Thanks for the compliment!

No need for sorrys.
I am very glad to see you working on what has been your weakness in you pixel work. You have truly been showing desire to correct your color choice decisions and adding depth to you work.
You are doing alright ; )

the tentacles with small .. scales? .. look very nice.  Much better than the original which look like a bunch of round magnetic balls together in one space, but not really one thing.

The other (bigger) texture I don't understand.    What are the lines connecting the highlights of each separate ball supposed to be?  I can't picture this a 3d form.. are there some sort of membrane walls between the balls? uhm.. I don't know what to say..  Sure it looks sort of cool, but it makes little sense IMO.

Maybe I'm just tired, I'll come back with fresh eyes tomorrow.

But I agree with jal - it's nice that you're productively working to improve rather than just doing the same crap over and over like I do.

*learns lesson from you*

The lines between the balls are kind of a sinewy, tendon-like membrane-ish.... I dunno, let's say "stuff" that just looked pretty cool in the edit...  I guess it doesn't really make much sense, but I can use the excuse that this beastie is not of this world!

Thanks for all of the c+c for this folks.... here's the final character:

Jalonso, is it possible to update the gallery with this new one in place of the old metallic one after it has been approved?

It's looking soooo much cooler with the new texture, but the colors are still really boring. Try playing with your hues a bit more.
