[edit]
Not working on this anymore. Final version is way down in the last post. Cookies to PixelSpy and Larwick. [/edit] Alright, I wasn't really happy with the "Mahlzeit" piece I sent to the gallery last week after looking at it for some time... so I made a major update: ![]() (15 colors) Any big/small flaws in it that need to get corrected before I submit it again? (I'll also accept nitpicking if you think there are no big flaws in it.) Edited by Dennis - 02 April 2008 at 12:56pm |

Looks great. My only nitpick, being an espresso fan, would be to make a thicker looking creme on top of the coffee guy.

Argh, I guess I have failed.
It was supposed to be a soup bowl with soup in it, not coffee and the little salter is handing him salt. I see I have to change it, to make it more obvious, so that it won't be mistaken for coffee. I think, I'll have to add some other colors for that. |

Hah...yeah I actually thought it was coffee and the other guy was sugar. It could work either way actually.

You're right that it would work either way.
I would like it to be read as soup and salt though (I wonder whether I should really leave it to the viewer to see what he/she wants to see...), so for the purpose of practicing, I have tweaked the pallette a little (and got rid of two unnecessary colors in the process and replaced them with two new entries, so it's still 15 colors). I also had to tweak the aa here and there after the pallette change. I've made the substance in the bowl greenish (with some brownish stuff in it, which is supposed to be sliced sausages) and shifted everything a little more towards blue, especially the salter, because I think that blue is less associated with sugar than the light-pink that it previously was. Just a quick hello to say, if you want the salt to look like salt, i would suggest making the highlight of it white, perhaps adding some kind of dither texture to it somewhere aswel? At the moment i don't see it as salt.
Keep it up! Edit: Haha sorry, i didn't notice there was already white and a dither texture on the salt, but this is probably a problem anyway. It could be because i'm using a CRT monitor not an LCD, which are clearer for viewing pixels i think. Edited by Larwick - 02 April 2008 at 10:53am |

Yeah, I'm on an LCD and pixel pieces actually look a lot different between CRT and LCD monitor (still also have an old CRT at my parents place, whenever I pixelled something there and later looked at it again on my LCD, I had to make some adjustments(especially on the aa) and sometimes even on the colors, because the CRT usually makes everything look a lot more blurry).
Anyway, after I posted the above update, I notice that it looked kind of weird on the dark forum bg that I have set and I went and tweaked the colors again and also added some more dithering to the salt, which is pure grey now: ![]() |
