Most of the work Ill post here is for Mp2d, but here and there youll see sprites for my game which isnt decided what will it be yet.

First:

Omega Pirate (Metroid Prime) converted into 2d. Not exactly accurate, but it keeps the main idea. I did the walking animation only, design of the creature was made by Dazuro Ghenari (another spriter). Practically, Ive done everything about it. For the mistakes, its left hand swings more and faster than his right hand, its a bit choppy (which wont be visible ingame though), it lacks of a frame and grains come from nowhere. I personally like it very much, and Im proud of being able to animate such a big thing

Omega Pirate Walking

Now, Phazon Elite, another pirate from Metroid Prime converted into 2d. Definitively not accurate, but design was approved. It was originally another way, but the one that was making it abandoned it and I improved the design. It still lacks 2 frames so it looks fluid enough.

Yet, another creature from Metroid Prime, converted into 2d, named Sheegoth. What you see here are 3 things: 1- Samus sprite (put there just to compare sizes) which was done by the spriter MetroidHandler , manager of the Mp2d project. 2- The muscled reptile is the sheegoth. The newest one is the one that has been copied 3 times in the sheet. Finally, 3- My first sprite, the old version of the 2d sheegoth. It was updated various times, but finally, it was redone. I gotta make a walking animation for it.

Lorak and Nacro sprites are space pirates of a metroid based, sprite based webcomic. Finally something not from mp2d huh? . The ones that are inside a square were made by him, with pieces from metroid and megaman, but he asked for a redesign, and I willed to help. I did them completely from scratch.

These are my favorite tiles, the chozo ruins tiles. I have a peculiar and effective way of doing tiles, and is that I do a big image and crop it in 16*16 squares. Although randomness of tiles wont be able to be aplied, its very effective and looks very good. The sand here needs to be redone urgently, because it simply doesnt looks good. This also includes some backgrounds. BTW the statue that has a burger wasnt made by me, but I did the burger

Thats it for now, because everything else its just TOO wip, or are just some tilesets, backgrounds and objects.

Any feedback would be appreciated, and NO FLAMES accepted kthnx.

hey, that's pretty good..

you should probably break up the different parts of the shegoth into separate sprites, though... like different parts for the legs and the jaw and what not.

sort of like how they put craid together and crocomire.

Ooh, those are all really nice... I have Metroid Prime myself and it's nice to see these creatures in 2D for a change. I'll definately play MP2D once it's finished

Thanks man!

If you say so because of easier animation, no but thanks anyways. I think some of the super metroid stuff look too stiff, so if I only make the legs move, the body or the head or whatever will make it look unvivid (although in some cases they look well, like in human body or humanlike creatures)

yeah i know where you're saying...

but if you look at zero mission, they accomplished better animations, because they animated all the separate parts as best as they could.

layering the feet, arms etc. will make it easier to animate things that have moves that look alike, but itll turn out to be harder to make it all nicely sync'd

plus, you cant AA inside the animal if all parts are separate

It's stand for antialaising, a technique to smoothen out lines. You will find tutorials on it int the... tutorial section.

with a little clever-ness you could probably pull something off.. but yeah, it's tough.

it's easier, in general, to just break things up into parts anyways.

it's pretty easy in graphics gale... because there's a really nice frame interface, and each frame can have it's own layers and what not.  You could do the same thing, sort of, in paint shop pro or photoshop with groups and layers, too...

but yeah, layering the different body parts is definately the way to go.

also, you might try sketching out some of the frames on paper, first.. especially if you're not using a tablet.

it's all up to you, though.  that's just the route I'd take.  good luck on this project, I thought they put it on ice for a while but I guess it's still alive, huh?  make sure to put in net play.

The main page was not updated in a long time, and progress slowed down, but we are refocusing our efforts onto the demo and its going pretty cool right now.

that's good to hear.  I thought about helping out on this project more than once..

don't know if I'd be much help, though.  I'm pretty busy sometimes with other stuff.

Is their a list of what is still to be completed?

We have our lists but theyre kinda not on date. We are currently focusing on the demo, which is just one and the first area of the game. I have screensohts of each room, and backgrounds are needed. We can also get more screensohts of the rooms (we have guys for that) just if youre in problems.

Kinda, we need more backgrounds than enemies. Not kinda, its a fact

Anyways... updates the first page.

The metroid 2d project sounds like a ton of fun and I can see you definitely have the skills to pull it off.  Your tech and stone tiles are really well done.

Wow I really love your style on those tiles, it's like Quake meets Turrican, hehe. You sure know how to texturise things, and the colours are very pleasing, but lighting and shading seem like a fairly big issue, I'd advise you pick a lightsource to shade everything from, it will make things seem less flat, I mean in my opinion the best thing you've done there are those tech pillar platforms, they look awesome, because they are shaded much more than the other things.

All the best on the project, keep us posted on it
