Well I would assume that it would be shaded more like a sphere -- so in your case you would need to start tapering the shadow around the backside ( top left )
so just shade it the same way you would a ball ( The top any way ) |

Why so big? You could set this to 50% its current size and still have plenty of pixels for details, and it would be much more manageable.

You seem to have picked out a lot of colors and have done a lot of dithering, but it's probably more important to worry less about that and more about the shape/form of what you're drawing. Here's a variety of references- LINK

It's way too big, and you have too many colours aswell. The difference between colours is so subtle I still thought it was one colour. Up the contrast and use less colours! :) Oh and scale down too.
