Though I've been coming to this site regularly for some time, I have yet to post until now. Being Flash game programmer of several years, I have always had trouble finding a good collaborative artist (which may have something to do with my lack of funds lol) but at the same time, I have always been drawing since I was a little kid (as well as always being on the computer, lol you know those big giant floppies? year.

TL:DR; I decided some time back to take up pixel art to do my own art for the games, as that is currently the most lacking section of my development cycle! That and after messing around with it for some time with a cheap little bamboo tablet and GraphicsGale....its very fun indeed.

TL:DRAgain; I recently submitted a portrait that I was planning to use in game, but it got denied for revision. After a nights rest and a fresh look at it, I started completely over (new palette as well) and increased the resolution by a tad. Here is the old (now deceased 32x32 image), followed by the WIP 48x48 image.

Comments and criticisms and welcomes welcome! :)

old image from a couple days ago:

new image, done in about a couple hours (yeah im a newb lol)

As you can see, the two are drastically different. Ive experimented using black highlight features (notably the eyes) however I probably overdid it with the black (as ive read is easy to do). I added a little more red to the skin tones as well and some other smaller things

This time around I am drawing influence from the pixel art portraits of Phantasy Star 4 for the Sega Genesis, which I have always admired. You can see a bunch of the portraits here:

However at that resolution and color limitation I am very far from that quality, but I want to get there!

it really is amazing how much a difference a pixel or two can make (especially around the eyes, such as the lone pixel 'peaking' each of them)

edit: edited the hair to make it look more dimensional and the left side is now darker as well. Small adjustments to face including changing out some black around the eyes for the darkest skin tone

editAgain:added more dimension to the right hair and changed HSL on the darkest skin color

edit more: lowered the hat and edited the 'size' of the 'cone' part and the rim, edited shading
