Cliché items! :)



I'll be doing a bunch of small items for a game, so this makes for a good practice!

That's a really nice start, but you are relying on the same colors/brightness-register for all images so far. Maybe mix it up a bit?

Yeah... Just getting into things again. Not everything in the image'll stay.

Hey everyone! This is my first post; I'm not very active on Pixel Joint but I really want to become more active eventually. Anyway, this is my entry so far, coming in at 8 colors (so far)



I was actually going to ask how I could decrease my colors, but I think I'm doin' fine so far, haha :)

I know theres alot of pros here, so any of you got some improvements for me? I really need to learn how to properly convey depth with pixels. Tired of these shabby 2-d sprites :p

Haven't pixeled in quite a while, so I thought I'd give this one a shot.

Inventory of gruesome bits (complete with obligatory dangling nerves &blood vessels, of course!). A fang, an eyeball, and a tongue, so far. Using Dawnbringer's 16-color palette. ^_^

I think I'm getting the hang of this palette. :D

@Pookaball: Maybe give the items more interesting positions, so that they aren't all perfectly horizontal or vertical & directly facing the viewer? Maybe throw a few 45º angles in there, for instance, just to make the presentation a bit more interesting. :)

Oh wow, my bad... I appear to have mislabeled the palette image file on my harddrive. Thanks for the correction!

Maybe I'll try another with the *real* "DB's 16", then, if I finish this one in time. :)

This challenge is interesting. Are we allowed to have 2 items of the same kind? By that I mean, can I fill in 2 slots with gold and silver coins?

The bag is giving me a hard time and some things just don't look as nice as I'd wanted... Still, though, I'm doing better than I thought I'd do.

- An unusual letter from "Martha" to "Henry" containing some rather suggestive language. In the pinhold, a pressed and dried yellow flower with almost no smell.

- A flask of weaksmelling liquor. The front is embossed with a poppy and, within it, the word "Virag." It is a little less than half empty.

- A potato. It is blackened and withered with age. It appears that it tried to spout once, but failed.

- A bar of lemon soap, still in its wrapper. It stinks quite strongly.

- A pair of broken spectacles. They'll need to be mended, again.

- A page, bearing a few illegible scribbles. It is slightly damp with saltwater. With it a pencil, blunted, snotty and halfway chewed through.

- A tattered and wornout handkerchief. The redness of it has been dulled with snot.

- Three coins: a sixpence and two pennies. They make a dull clinking as you walk.

Didn't know we were able to draw the full backgrounds - was thinking this thing was most of the way done :(. Luckily, I have two colors left to play with!

The literary-inclined will know what these items are from. Purists will notice that one is invented and two are from different works (where the remaining five are from the same), but I thought it was more interesting than having too many different notes, letters, and newspapers.

Daanvdk, we've been through this such a long long time...

I'm curious though, what kind of pouch/pocket/pack can hold a raincloud? :P

Here's my progress so far. Setting is some hotel murder mystery or something.

Red Liquid~ Red liquid sloshing around an unlabeled bottle. Blood? Wine? You don't want to taste it to find out.
Parking Ticket~ A slip of paper you got when you paid for your parking. It says: 'Saturday, 8th August, 2004. Thank you for using U-Park-It!'

I think I've updated my inventory. Still bad, but I tried drawing everything in a different way.
The small thing at bottom left is a badly drawn book.
Well, I guess everything is too tiny.

@ultimaodin: Nah, you're right...I was trying to get away with too little contrast on the dynamite there.

so, i'm trying something for an investigation-game... the top four items are for photography (camera, lens, flash and film), the lower four will be common items like a notebook or a city map. I'm a fan of lomography, so i decided to do this diana camera design, though you wouldn't use such a camera for professional observation...

Going to attempt a brain to complete the set, but I dunno if I can pull off a satisfactory squiggly look at this scale...

@Frogger5: Hehe, means I must be doing something right. Nice shading on the diamond there, BTW.

@gogglecrab: Thanks mate. :) Re: your piece, I think it might benefit from a bit higher contrast, specifically a darker background to make the items stand out a bit more. Also, watch out for banding on the outlines. ;)
