Hi! I'm new here. I really like sidescroller games and exploration games, so I figured I'd try making a tileset. It's supposed to be the inside of a brick/rock chamber, lit with torches.

If you have any feedback, I'd love to hear it (even if it's criticism!)

Are you talking about the lanterns? I definitely tried to make the smaller bricks in the back made of darker colors.

I think the latern light could have a greater area of effect with more drop off. With a wider range you can show the contrast in with the bricks at direct proximity and those further away. Also, do not be afraid to use blank black tiles for those BG tiles far out of reach from the light sources. Try experiment with some less visible ground tiles as well to enhance the lit effect.
The world is but a shadow of emotion, cast in shades of grey.

I started a new one. I realized that the size of the tiles was too small to get any real detail (at least for me) and that I was using dithering, which I didn't like. I came up with this instead. It also has dark sections, with transitions between them. I'll spend more time on the background later.

Any way you could show us a mockup of those tiles? I'm sure they're quite nice, but it's hard to tell in the current format with no examples -- with a mockup, it should be easier for us to give you decent advice.

Right, thanks!

Like I said, I have to work on the background a little more, and I also need doodads and things like torches and boxes and such.
