Hapiel: Nice :) Yeah, mirroring is cheap, but fast ;) I don't know what i was thinking with the double-corners, for some reason I thought they were needed, just ignore them :P (I think I was thinking that we had a one-tile wide bottom too).

The wall: what do you mean with the layering ability? And well, if we could come up with something that doesn't confuse a player about passable/non-passable then sure, we could do something else with the wall of course.

Nice edit on the logs, I like that version in-between, and tried something similar:

Which makes sense with the lighting, but the ones with the light ends fits more with the tent.

Teban: I Agree with Hapiel, really like the key though :)

Here is a quick test on a non-passable wall.. What do you think?

What I mean with layering the walls, I show an example in the bottom right corner. This would not be possible if the walls were solid, or at least you could not reach every spot on this map.

Logs will be included in the object set!

@Fahrenheit: Still working on the tree?
@A3um: Beach/templee coming together?
I am really looking forward to see some new stuff :). My time to draw is limited at the moment sadly though :(...

Well, it's really different from the other tiles, but I guess that if we would use solid walls I think that would be needed.

And yes, it wouldn't make sense to do that thing in the bottom corner with the way I suggested, but then again, with what I suggested, the left would be non-passable, and the right one passable (Quick edits).

I'm also curious about both the tree and beach/temple :)

I think I like Kazen's edit more because the solid wall is a lot different as kazen said. Also, honestly, no not really... Sorry!

I actually like non-passable wall that Hapiel designed. Though they don't fit in with jungle... BUTT They would work very well with the temple. BONUS!!! The way he designed them lends itself to wall jumping. Put to of those walls near each other and the adventurer can jump back and forth to climb, just like Samus from metroid.

Mr.F, no beef. We work on things here when we're up to working on it. I for example have been reunited with friends I grew up with in another country and also been doing loads of work. I've also been catching up new trends in HTML5 and CSS3, a 580 page book! I'll get to doing something OPP soon though! I haven't done anything art related in over a week!

Also in regards to the wall thing, I much prefer Kazens idea. The wall looks foreign in the landscape we're trying to create.

Oh, just an fyi. I stopped working on my tree because I thought something better in design could be created. I still do.

A3um, thats a very cool mochup man!

I think we should definitely create Kazens tiles (you go for it Kazen?), it is very little effort and adds a lot to the flexibility of the set. I'll create a manual of how to use all the tiles once the set is finished anyway, and can explain the pros and cons of different systems in there too.

I made another attempt at the wall tiles in case they want to be used like this. They match better with the current walls, but read less as non-passable....

Sure, and here they are (suggestion). Actually, in order to make it more flexible able to mix and match, I updated some old tiles (some added pixels here and there) so they'll fit together easier without having to do new tiles. The left ones are new, and right are existing, edited tiles. I'm not sure if we need the two on the top to the right of the new tiles when they maybe could be swapped with the ones below and have a solid "black" tile behind though, but maybe it's simpler.

Edit: also, the inside-cornertiles (top-left) are very similar to the slopes-inside tile. Maybe those could/should be combined into one unified tile that can be used for both purposes?

Hi guys
I was away traveling for a while, but I've just returned :)

Here is the latest complete tileset, reorganised once again.

@Kazen: From the corner tile suggestions, I have only taken the right ones. The left ones I left as is, to prevent too much mirroring, but if you'd like to correct those into unique ones you are welcome to.
I believe the top two tiles in the second column are ones that we already have, they are the 7th tile from the top in this new set. All the other tiles were copied into the new set.

TODO for tileset:
  • Water, Damian?
  • Tree. Top of the tree is still not perfect, and perhaps a foreground leave layer (in front of player etc) would make the tree a whole?

Tree front layer is done. I tried to make it on a diagonal grid so that it doesn't align too much with the background layer.

Also, I will probably soon rearrange the whole tileset once again, with some space between all the tiles so that it can be updated without having to reorganise, which is more programmer friendly...

Hmm, when I created those leaves I never intended for them to be tileable. Right now I think they create a lot of noise, maybe I could help create something more seamless.

Yeah, I much prefer the second option in that it looks more brown. The bottom 3, left, look really cool for a more dark atmosphere. Maybe something to keep in mind.

Updated the original post.
I also missed this, so yeah, looks great.

I've already said it, but I'm not much of a fan of my original tree. So I've recreated another tree, still a work in progress, but hopefully better. Its still very messy in places, I'll try and fix that tomorrow when I have a new perspective on it. As always, welcome to edits.

Going back to what dawnbringer did, I think we might be able to pull off a dark forest tileset if we make changes to the existing forest tileset. Like this for example.

And for good measure a brown alternative.

Yeah so am I, its getting there slowly but surely.
Added variants above.

At the moment I'm working out the platform branches. I'd like for them to be able to go up at an angle, so I'm just figuring out how to make good modular tiles.

Once I get the basic branch tiles done, I'd like to maybe add something similar to what a3um did here:

Hmmm, here, I kinda just went out and made three branches without really thinking about it. Of course not so modular as I'd planned. So, I've started to redo the branches. I think this is kinda what I want. Gonna start working on it now. Any advice welcome.

Ooh, very nice-looking tree! Yeah, making it modular will probably be a pain, but doable :) Just wanted to mention that since the characters feet are at the bottom of the tiles, so the branches should probably do the same (as the previous tree did, overlapping two tiles)

I want to share with you gentlemen a doodle I did of an idea for ornamentation over a temple entrance. Now, I wasn't sure if you all were wanting the temple to be menacing and/or mysterious or what, but here's the idea I thought of.

This is sweet, I love it!
I am thinking to open a thread on the temple soon, there are so many ideas spread on different places, a new thread could help to get some action going into one direction again :)

Here is what I've accomplished tonight. The colors are taken from A3um's colorful temple draft. The extreme edges where the blocks meet still needs work, but I'll figure that out as I create the other blocks in the diagram.

Any thoughts?

I would love a parallax background for the beach and jungle.

Anyone have any idea we can work on?

Search jungle parallax on youtube.

As for beach, slowest layer: islands, middle waves, front sand.

I made a flexible tileset to generate additional layers for a paralaxing background. Here is the tileset and an example of the tileset in action.
