Hello guys!
I have a question about perspective. Here's a screenshot of my game: ![]() At the moment, I'm creating new elements to decorate things but I'm really struggling with the perspective. Normally, you would have a single or many VP. With a "static" background like here though, I don't understand according to what angle I should create new elements and this is bothering me immensely. Normally, I would be able to use a VP to give me an idea as to how to proceed but now I can't. I could use a strict side-view perspective (like Mario) but I don't like the way it looks. Ninja Gaiden pulled it off nicely: ![]() I can see some parallel lines here. Where would be mine in my screenshot however? Normally I'd have a VP like so: ![]() But here I obviously don't. So yeah, I'm confused. |

I'm not an expert.. but you must go with a ortographic view.. these do not have vanishing points, they work with paralell lines and gives you a nice result, similar to the ninja gaiden.
Go search more about the differences between ortogrhaphic and perspective views, that should help you. ![]() Don't try to use vanishing points with scrolling 2d backgrounds, this may lead to strange results. stick with ortographic. Edited by ThiagoTejo - 09 March 2015 at 2:11pm |

Vanishing point does not apply here because you are working with a forced perspective.
I find the mockup ok even if you are using 2 views. The sprite is 45 (just like the Ninja mockup you show) and the world tiles are 3/4 (ish) top-down. |

But I still don't understand how I'm supposed to depict geographical shapes.
An edit in my screen would really help me point me in the right direction. Like a cone, cylinder or cube with the perspective I'm using. Because right now I don't understand. I still appreciate the input but I don't get it. |

Understand that perspective is forced so some things need
to be tweaked so they look right as opposed to being correct. Triangles and organic shapes most often. ![]() |

Thanks Jal! I didn't get a notification about your reply so I just found it by pure luck. I will read this carefully and study it later. Thanks! Saved to hard drive!
