I thought I'd try my hand at making a palette, because although I haven't really done what might loosely be considered pixel art since like.... middle school.... I still like colors a lot and palettes are fun.

A couple of the colors are quite similar so I may well edit that later in an attempt to get rid of redundant colors.

I just really like warm tones like pink and pale orange with cool tones like navy and turquoise. :3

Another palette. This one's my 3rd, my warmest, my lowest in contrast, and probably my favourite so far. I tried to incorporate the greys into all of the ramps.

Pretty much my first post. Hopefully this went correctly. I'll try to add some art made with this palette later.

You make your palette as you wish whether it follows a theme or not.

Almost done here. Just need one more color but I have no clue what color I need, any tips on what I should add ?

Decided to add a pink to help the flow a bit.
Any suggestions?

I think my palette should work for most stuff. though it has some problems, I don't want to work on it anymore. Here it is:

How are people making those cool palette example things? Do I need to do it by hand?

Been tweaking those two palettes for a while now, too noob to make those awesome charts tho, but here are some color reduced pics to show them in action :)

Palette A

Inspired by oil paintings, great for portraits but also nice for general purpose:

Palette B

For gerenal use. Tried to equilibrate the lights and shadows, so it's strong on yellows and greens:

If you have any updates please add the word UPDATE so that we can edit that post on page 1 which is the judging list.
We try to keep all updates but all should check that the one posted on that list on page 1 is your final palette entry.

From now until deadline whenever we update the post on page 1 we will post a ENTRY LIST UPDATED! here.

My first public palette. First I picked a lot of images with saturated colors. Then I ran it through the scolorquant algorithm. Finally I played with it in the IPT color space.

I like how lavender turned out - it works both as a warm shade of white or as a highlight for dark blue. I don't like how close light green is to the cold light gray. I'd really like a brownish gold to bridge the region between yellow and orange - now it needs to be dithered.

@jalonso

My images seem to be working for me and I have all the hex codes marked, is there a reason my palette is not listed?

Ayo!
I've made this pallete around the 23rd but I'm uploading it now haha.
I've never made a palette before and actually used it! What I made seems to be far different than what others made in terms of how flashy the colors are but I'll upload it anyway.

Flyguy: That can be done in Photoshop. Just save your palette from the color table under image -- mode then open up any picture and index it with a custom palette file and turn dithering off.

Interesting...doesn't that mean DB's Toolbox could be recreated in photoshop by just using this method on gradients and hue charts?

Non white Bgs are fine...I suppose :(

The reason we ask for no black or white is so that the type and BG remain pure white and black.
We like to think these palettes will be used by others for their work and everyone uses different apps and have their set ways.
Not everyone has the ability to isolate or create index palettes by importing. The white/black we just think is a happy medium for all.
We always expect y'alls to find loopholes and ways around anything we do so we deal with it...so should all :D

@FlyGuy, PS does everything! It does the dishes and vacuums my home everyday and when I'm real nice I get a massage >.<

I wish I had a better work ethic so I could have done some demonstration stuff for this instead of sitting at my screen and sighing.

I call this the "fruit basket" palette due to its high-saturation and somewhat elevated focus on warm hues compared to the average PJ 16-color palette (though perhaps those palettes are on to something). The lack of a proper "white" may prove daunting and somewhat ineffective in most scenarios, but who knows what sort of project you guys are stewing up.

Working on color code, decided to change somne colors
Before

After

The newer one has browns for trees and stuff
The older one had a dull green and gray for stoneish stuff
Decided that the stone related colors were kinda awful, and that if I want to actually use them, I would need more like that
So I added something that I had a need for as well
Only whole bottom left 4 is different

Did some practice shading with my palette earlier today

The middle blue is great for in between the dark and medium greens.
Originally was going to be a tree, but shading leaves takes a lot of time that I don't have! I also had no good browns at that point, so the rest of it looked like an oversaturated popsicle stick!
*EDIT* just realized my new brown's need a lack of saturation.

Didn't get very much time to work on this, but, here is a palette that was originally inspired by colors in an oil slick:

A dark palette, perhaps good for night scene with neon lights?

Here's my entry. Hex codes could be better, but whatever.

No greys, but there are some half-decent neutraliser combos like magenta and the middle green or orange and middle blue.
